Real Madrid full-back Alvaro Arbeloa is targeting a win against Atletico de Madrid to help overcome the disastrous display at Real Sociedad at the weekend.
Los Blancos let a two goal lead slip as the fell to a 4-2 defeat at Anoeta on Sunday, and have criticised in the press in recent days for their inability to deal with set plays and crosses.
Speaking at an adidas event in Madrid on Monday afternoon, Arbeloa said the best way to put such a painful defeat behind them is to get a win over their city rivals. Los Blancos and Los Colchoneros lock horns again in mid-September, after the international break.
Diego Simeone’s team already have the upper hand on Real this season having defeated them in the Spanish Supercopa. The teams drew 1-1 in the first leg at the Santiago Bernabeu before the La Liga champions won 1-0 at the Calderon.
Arbeloa said: “The defeat in San Sebastian was particularly hard because of the way it happened. But we are now thinking about working hard. We have a very important match against Atletico after the break with our people and our fans.
“We’re aware that this is a warning and it will motivate us and help us see that we need a change.”
