Reports suggest that Arsenal will pursue their interest in Real Madrid defensive midfielder Sami Khedira this summer.

The North London club are supposedly readying a bid for the German international who is out of contract with Los Blancos next summer.

The Mirror say the bid will be around £15million, which would force the hand of the European champions to either offer Khedira a new contract or sell him.

Khedira has impressed in recent seasons for the Madrid club since joining from VFB Stuttgart in 2010, but unfortunately suffered an anterior cruciate ligament tear in November.

The injury was suspected to keep Khedira out for the season and put his World Cup participation in doubt, however he was able to recover enough to start in Real’s Champions League victory on Saturday.

Arsenal are in desperate need of a strong, powerful holding midfielder and Khedira would undoubtedly be a high class solution to that problem.

But was the German to become available it is likely that other clubs would take an interest, including his former manager in Madrid, Chelsea’s Jose Mourinho, who is still a strong admirer.

Although it is probable Real Madrid will offer Khedira a new contract due to Xabi Alonso’s advancing years, and the relative inexperience of Asier Illaramendi.
