Real Madrid boss has hailed his side’s defensive record after Los Blancos secured their ninth consecutive win to move top of La Liga on Saturday.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema grabbed a goal each as Madrid ran out 2-0 winners over Granada at the Santiago Bernabeu. But Ancelotti picked out central defensive pairing Pepe and Sergio Ramos for their outstanding performances so far in 2014.
Speaking at his press conference after the game, Ancelotti was asked about his team’s defensive stability. And the Italian responded expressing his delight.
“I like it, but you forget that I won three cups in preseason, although the most important one was the European Cup. The record is very good, I have to thank all the players because they are focused on recovering the ball right now. Ramos and Pepe have been perfect in 2014, but everyone has worked hard to get this record,” he stated.
The Italian boss also spoke about the current state of affairs at the top of the league. And in an ominous sign for Barcelona and Atletico de Madrid, Ancelotti feels there is still more to come from his team.
“Tonight we will sleep better than the other Saturday, much calmer. We will keep fighting. Playing every match and preparing well is not straightforward. The first half showed that the team are not in top physical condition. To always play at a high intensity is not easy, but all of the players are making a big sacrifice and are doing very well,” he said.
