Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has said his side is ready to fight for the title after Los Blancos closed the gap on Barcelona and Atletico de Madrid to just three points following their hard fought win over Espanyol.

Defender Pepe grabbed the only goal of the game in a scrappy encounter, but the Italian manager said Los Blancos showed the fighting spirit needed that could make the difference this season.

Speaking to reporters after the match he said La Liga is a three-horse race now, and that the winners will most likely need to get 100 points or more because the quality of the other teams involved is so high.

“It isn’t that way everywhere, but that is how La Liga is in Spain, with very strong teams. To win you have to score 100 points and it will not be easy, but we have the desire and enthusiasm to as well as possible,” he said.

He heaped praise on his team for securing the win after the top two had played out a 0-0 draw 24 hours before.

“We started a little slow and suffered in the first 15 minutes but then we played well and looked for chances to score without losing confidence. It is an important win because we made up points on the two top teams, which there aren’t many chances to do because they are doing very well,” Ancelotti stated.
