Real Madrid forward Javier Hernandez has said he wants to make the most of the opportunities that come his way to play in the first team.

The 26-year-old, on loan from Manchester United, scored in the 4-1 win over Cornella as Los Blancos started the defence of the Copa del Rey on Wednesday night.

The Mexican has found himself largely playing a substitute role or filling in when the likes of Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo or Gareth Bale are injured or in need of a rest.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Chicharito said he wants to use every opportunity he gets to show boss Carlo Ancelotti what he can do. And when it comes to picking the team, it’ entirely up to the manager to decide.

“The manager asks us to show professionalism and respect for all our opponents, so we played this game the same way as we did El Clásico,” he said, adding “I just try to show my quality when I play.”

Speaking about the goal he scored, he heaped praise on James Rodriguez for providing the assist.

He told reporters: “James sent me the pass, I held back and then the rebound came to me from Benzema, then I just set my sights on goal.”
