Today was a happy day for Real Madrid. Some important members of the squad, the coach and the president travelled to England to The Best Awards ceremony in the London Pavillion, in Piccadilly Circus. FIFA organized this event for the second year in a row and Los Blancos were the protagonist.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane won the two most important awards. The Portuguese striker brings home for the second time in a row The Best award as the best footballer of the year, beating Leo Messi and Neymar. The Portuguese won the Champions League and La Liga last season, scoring key goals in the decisive moments.
On the other hand, Zinedine Zidane received this award for the first time in his career. Last year he was shortlisted, but Claudio Ranieri won the award after winning the Premier League with Leicester City. This time, after winning back-to-back titles of the Champions League, Zidane deserved to win the award. Apart from the European title conquered in Cardiff, we should add other four titles -FIFA Club World Cup (although it was in December), La Liga, Spanish Supercup and European Supercup-.
There are also five Real Madrid players in the ideal line-up made by FIFA: Sergio Ramos, Marcelo, Kroos, Luka Modric and Cristiano Ronaldo. This is the eighth time that the captain Sergio Ramos is in the ideal line-up. These are all the players included in the ideal team: Buffon (Juventus), Dani Alves (Juventus, now PSG), Leonardo Bonucci (Juventus, now Milan), Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid), Marcelo (Real Madrid), Modric, Kroos (Real Madrid), Iniesta (Barça), Neymar (Barça, now PSG), Messi (Barça) and Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid).
Keylor Navas is not in this list, but he was shortlisted as the best goalkeeper of the season, an award won by Gianluigi Buffon. The Puskas Award of the best goal of the year went to Olivier Giroud.
Florentino Pérez wanted to represent Real Madrid in this important day for the club. Los Blancos were the main protagonist in the ceremony, showing the strength of the squad and the importance of the project. Hopefully, next year they come back to the The Best ceremony because it would mean that the season was again successful.
