Defeat won’t end our season – Zinedine Zidane

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane says defeat in the derby against Atletico de Madrid tomorrow evening will not mean the end of their season.

Los Blancos go into the match a point behind their city rivals and nine points off top place – occupied by Barcelona.

The 10-time Champions League winners have lost their last two league encounters at home to Los Colchoneros and it was against the same outfit that their title bid came off the rails last season with the 4-0 thumping at the Vicente Calderon.

A loss once more would all but leave Zidane and his men without any hope of catching their Catalan rivals in the race for La Liga.

But the boss told his press conference he doesn’t believe that to be the case and no matter what happens in the derby, his team will fight until the very end to try and overhaul Barcelona.

He told reporters: “The derby is one more game, we have to give our best as always. It’ll be difficult. The players know what they have to do. We’re going to give our best. The important thing for us is to know what we have to do on the pitch. Atletico are not only a team who defend. We know it’s difficult. We have analysed the mistakes from Malaga and worked on them this week.

“Whatever happens, we will not lower our arms until the end. There are points to play for. Our season is not over tomorrow. I want to see a good game of football. We have our weapons and we’ll try to use them well. It’s important for the fans, I ask them to get behind the team, as they always do. A derby is always special.”
