Real Madrid goalkeeper Diego Lopez has said he his happy with life at the club under new manager Carlo Ancelotti.

The 31-year-old keeper was signed in January by former boss Jose Mourinho as replaced Iker Casillas in the first team for the rest of the campaign.

With Casillas back to full form and fitness, and Los Blancos being under new management, it is widely expected that Lopez will drop down to the bench at the Santiago Bernabeu.

But the former Villareal man said at a press conference that he is looking forward to the new season and hopes to improve on last season’s performances.

He stated: “I have never thought about leaving. I have confidence in my ability and about maintaining my level and improving.

“If there have been offers then it is up to Real Madrid to evaluate them, but my position has always been to stay.”

The shot stopper added that he is expecting pre-season to step up through the gears following Madrid’s 6-0 win over Bournemouth.

He said: “We have a lot of difficult pre season matches and the one against Lyon is one of those. We have to work hard to get the best possible start in the league.”
