Fernando Morientes: Cristiano Ronaldo will be back with a bang

Former Real Madrid striker Fernando Morientes says current Los Blancos star Cristiano Ronaldo will silence his critics soon and will be back with a bang.

The 30-year-old has experienced somewhat of an unusual start to the season this term. Although he has scored eight times already, all of his goals have come in just two games.

Earlier this month he netted five goals against Espanyol in La Liga and followed that up with a hat trick against Shakhtar Donesk on match day one of the Champions League.

Having drawn blanks in the rest of his games, it has led to some in the media to suggest the Portugal international is past his peak and his influence on the game is starting to diminsh.

But speaking to reporters, Morientes rubbished those claims, saying Ronaldo will be back to his goalscoring and devastating best soon.

He stated: “Everybody should leave Cristiano alone. We’re talking about a special player who after scoring 2 goals still isn’t satisfied. Cristiano does not need that criticism, or be above it. When we least expect it he’ll be back on track.”

And he continued: “Cristiano is used to shutting other people’s mouths. He’ll be back in to his usual (scoring) routine.”
