Spain boss Vicente del Bosque says the row between Barcelona defender Gerard Pique and a number of Real Madrid players past and present will not affect morale in the national team.

Pique seems to enjoy winding up Madrid players and fans and his behaviour has seen him whistled and jeered by La Roja fans in the past.

The defender taunted Los Blancos at the title winning celebrations in May when he thanked singer Kevin Roldan for his part in the success – the artist performed at Ronaldo’s 30th birthday celebrations just hours after Real lost 4-0 to Atletico in a match that swung La Liga in Barca’s favour.

This season he has mocked the 10-time Champions League winner over their expulsion from the Copa del Rey for fielding an ineligible player. Denis Cheryshev featured for Real against Cadiz when he was supposed to sitting out his one-match ban carried over from last season.

Speaking to reporters, del Bosque said: “It is a wound from the past which has not healed. We will have to see when we are together whether it affects the good relationship and atmosphere that has always existed. At the moment I don’t see it as a problem. Often it seems like people outside are trying to drive us apart.”
