Carlo Ancelotti has said he was pleased with his side’s attitude and performance after Real Madrid saw off Villarreal 2-0 at El Madrigal on Saturday.

Los Blancos ensured a third straight league win thanks to goals from Luka Modric and Cristiano Ronaldo – who now have eight goals in his last three league games. The team also kept their first clean sheet of the season after coming in for some criticism for having a leaky defence.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Italian manager Ancelotti said he was pleased not only with the result but with how how the players worked to ensure they returned to the Spanish capital with all three points.

“We had a very good attitude. We played a good match against an opposition that made it very difficult for us. We worked hard when he had to work hard and played when we had to play. We deserved to win. Playing a 4-3-3 formation is risky sometimes, but it’s a risk we know and it’s controlled,” he stated.

He also had words of praise for French striker Karim Benzema, who has come in for criticism for his lack of goal in the early part of the season. “Benzema should be congratulated for his performance, which was very good. Sometimes passing is better than scoring. He was key in the second goal,” he said.
