Jesús Vallejo made his La Liga debut last Sunday against UD Las Palmas. The defender played his first minutes with Los Blancos in the Copa del Rey game against Fuenlabrada but he was sent off. Only few days later, Zidane trusted him and included him in the line-up. The Spaniard hasn’t disappointed anybody.
Actually, his performance was brilliant. Jesús Vallejo was quick, fast, secure and he played without any risk. It was the perfect debut although UD Las Palmas tried to counter-attack several times. He finished the game very tired and with muscular problems, but the job was done and he showed great personality.
This personality is very important to have success at Bernabéu. We saw him cheering Cristiano Ronaldo up in the half-time after missing some chances. “It will go in, we’re nearly there. You’ll get one. Patience”, Vallejo said to Cristiano when he was frustrated in front of the goal.
Zidane also highlighted his good debut: “This is his second game in the line-up and he did great”, the manager said after the game.
Jesús Vallejo has a serious problem with the injuries because he’s been unable to show his great level due to the physical problems. Last season, he was on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt, becoming one of the best defenders in the Bundesliga in the first half of the season. However, an injury prevented him to play.
At the moment, he will have problems to start many games. Obviously, Sergio Ramos and Varane are the perfect couple as full-backs. Nacho stays as the first option to substitute them, especially now that Daniel Carvajal is back with the team and Nacho doesn’t have to play as right back. Achraf is not mature yet to occupy this position, so Vallejo could enjoy more minutes throughout the season.
Do you think Jesús Vallejo will succeed at Real Madrid?
