New Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal has admitted he would love to bring Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford.

The Dutchman has overseen a huge spending spree since taking over from David Moyes in the summer and has splashed out on the likes of Angel di Maria, Radamel Falcao, Daley Blind, Ander Herrera, Marcos Rojo and Luke Shaw.

And speaking ahead of his side’s trip to Leicester City this weekend, the former Holland and Barcelona boss told journalists he would like to sign the 29-year-old.

But he added that he doesn’t think Los Blancos would be likely to sell any time soon.

“It is possible,” Van Gaasl said about brining the Portuguese back to Old Trafford. And he added: “That’s what I have said with Falcao. Players like Ronaldo give a lot of extra to a team, but I don’t think Real Madrid shall sell him.”

Ronaldo has made no secret of his desire to one day return to the north west of England and it was reported earlier this month in the Madrid press that he was considering his long-term future in the Spanish capital following the sales of his good friend di Maria along with Xabi Alonso.
