The wife of Real Madrid boss Rafa Benitez has joked that her husband spends his career clearing up the mess left by Jose Mourinho.
The new Real boss has now been at three clubs after the Portuguese, having also been at Inter Milan and Chelsea following Mourinho’s departures. Carlo Ancelotti succeeded Mourinho directly at the Santiago Bernabeu but was fired for failing to win La Liga or the Champions League last season.
Speaking to La Razon, Montserrat Seara said Benitez just goes round clearing up the destruction following Mourinho. She then added on a serious note it is unsurprising they pair have shared so many clubs as there are very few world-class clubs out there.
“We tidy up his messes. If you think about it, of course you end up crossing paths. There are only a few world-class clubs out there.”
She then went on to add that Benitez find it hard to switch off from the game and is always thinking about football.
“On our first date, Rafa explained to me what a 4-4-2 was. He finds it hard to stay away from the game. The year we spent at home he helped coach the local school team. It was hilarious. He stood on the sidelines and shouted at them as if they were first division players, waving his arms about. He doesn’t see football as work, it’s his passion,” she commented.
