FIFA introduced in the Club World Cup the new Video Review System. The technology is creating a lot of controversy and, actually, most of the people involved weren’t very happy about the situation.

There are two controversial actions. In the first semifinals, the referee Viktor Kassai pointed the penalty spot after seeing the Video Review System. However, he didn’t realize that the Japanese player was in offside. In the Real Madrid game, Cristiano Ronaldo scored the second goal in the last minutes after a great assist from Álvaro Morata. The referee whistled the offside for a few moments and he asked the Video Review System. After a few moments of hesitation, he finally decided it was a legal goal.

Most of the Real Madrid players and even the coach weren’t very happy about the new technology. For instance, Zidane said: “The problem is that we need to adapt to what FIFA wants. I have my idea. In this action it created confusion. Perhaps, everything need to be more clear. The technology should improve the situation. The topic is not very clear, like it was shown in that action, but today it was fair. I had a look at it and Cristiano was not in offside”, Zidane said.

Luka Modric was named player of the game but he wasn’t very happy with the Video System Review: “It’s a new invention and to be honest I don’t like it. It creates confusion and I hope this rule will not continue because this is not football to me and I don’t like it. We have to focus on our game but the first impression is not positive”.

Finally, also Lucas Vázquez wasn’t very happy about it: “I think today this was shown again, in the first half. The disallowed goal of Benzema was offside and was seen quick enough. You lose the essence of football. This topic has been commented in the dressing room but we are professionals and we are waiting for the decision”.
