Real Madrid legend Roberto Carlos has said he believes current Los Blancos left back is the best defender in the world.
The 25-year-old is currently representing his country, Brazil, in the Confederations Cup and has put in some impressive displays, prompting the praise from the former occupant of the left back role at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Roberto Carlos, who now coaches in Turkey, spent 11 years in the Spanish capital, making 512 appearances and scoring 66 goals in total.
Speaking to Spanish daily, Marca, he stated: “There’s no doubt about it, he’s the best defender in the world.”
He added of Marcelo, who has won 22 caps for Brazil, that “he gets better by the day, a spectacular player. To me he looks happy, and that reflects on how he plays”.
