Sergio Aguero: I want to stay at Manchester City

Real Madrid have been dealt a blow in their chase for Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero after the Argentine said he wants to stay at the Etihad Stadium.

The 27-year-old, who won the Golden Boot in the Premier League last season, has been linked with a move back to the Spanish capital, four years after he left Atletico de Madrid. Despite an injury hit campaign, Aguero still managed to bag 32 goals in 42 games for the Citizens last season.

Such fine form had prompted talk that Florentino Perez has made Aguero his number one summer target and is prepared to offer 80 million euros to take him to the Santiago Bernabeu.

But in quotes published by British tabloid The Daily Star, Aguero poured cold water over any transfer talk and said he is happy in England.

“I’m enjoying these four years that I’ve had at City and there are still many more years to come. I’m very happy,” he said.

The news could be a relief for Karim Benzema, who has been linked with a move away from La Liga should Real sign Aguero. FA Cup winners Arsenal are known to be keen on the player, as are Manchester United, but the Frenchman is happy at the club.
