Gareth Bale lead Real Madrid as Los Blancos came from two goals behind against Rayo Vallecano on Saturday. A brace from the Welshman and a goal from Lucas Vazquez earned the visitors all three points.

Zinedine Zidane men put in an impressive performance in the second half to move top of the La Liga table, although Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are yet to play their match this weekend.

Los Merengues had a poor start and conceded two goals before the 15-minute mark. Yet, Bale was close to making it 0-1 in the third minutes as he hit the post with a powerful effort from the edge of the box.

Rayo made the breakthrough in the seventh minute as Bebe drove down the left before sending a low cross into Adrian Embarba, who fired home from close range.

The hosts made it 2-0 as Miku smashed the ball home from close range following some poor defending from Los Blancos in a corner kick.

The hosts came close to making it 3-0 as Embarba found himself facing Keylor Navas with no defenders around. However, some smart goalkeeping from Keylor Navas saved Real.

Ten minutes before the break, Bale gave his team hope as he headed a Toni Kroos corner past Juan Carlos Martin to make it 2-1.

Real improved in the second half and managed to level after seven minutes as Lucas Vasquez headed a super Danilo cross into the back of the net.

Bale completed the turnaround with ten minutes to go following a terrible mistake from Embarba, who sent the ball straight at the Welshman. The Los Blancos forward drove away from Amaya and found the bottom corner with a low strike.

Sergio Ramos says he enjoys it when Barcelona struggle because it means Real Madrid can take advantage.

Los Cules looked like they would stroll to the La Liga title a few weeks ago but defeat in the Clasico at the Camp Nou started a run that saw Luis Enrique’s men pick up just one point from a possible 12.

They got back to winning ways in emphatic fashion during the week when they beat Deportivo La Coruña 8-0 but with four games to go they are level with Atletico de Madrid and just a point ahead of Los Blancos.

Speaking to Cadena COPE, Ramos said: “Of course I enjoy things going badly at Barcelona. I like it because it benefits us. I do not wish bad things on anyone, though. I enjoy their struggles for sporting reasons. Everything that is bad for Barcelona is good for Real Madrid.

“Winning at Camp Nou was a big blow for them. A Clasico is always about more than just three points. It is the game of the season. It was tough for them mentally. They could have decided La Liga, but we reduced the gap instead. Of course, that leads to doubts.

“The league was theirs to lose. They have everything in their own hands, so you can say they lost the title if they don’t win it.”

Rayo Vallecano vs Real Madrid match preview

Real Madrid take on Rayo Vallecano this afternoon knowing that they can move top of the table albeit briefly.

With Atletico de Madrid and Barcelona playing later in the evening, three points for Zinedine Zidane’s men in the Vallecas suburb of Madrid would crank up the pressure on the other two teams vying for the La Liga title.

It is a remarkable situation from a few weeks ago when Barcelona looked to be strolling towards the title and playing the type of football that had them as favourites to repeat the treble they won last season.

Rayo are struggling near the foot of the table and are fighting to avoid the drop so Madrid will face a team up for a battle. The hosts have actually only bean beaten three times in the past 15 games although with eight draws in that sequence, their issue is failing to convert their chances and pick up more wins.

Los Blancos will need to be at their best – Rayo beat fourth placed Villarreal last time out, although both Barca and Atletico won easily in Vallecas when they visited.

In terms of team news, the main focus for Madrid is who will start in the front three. With the Champions League semi final up next, Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to be rested fro today’s encounter having picked up a hamstring problem in the win over Villarreal.

Gareth Bale has given the team a boost by returning to training although we may see both Jese and James Rodriguez start.

Probable Line ups:
Rayo Vallecano:
Juan Carlos, Quini, Amaya, Llorente, Tito, Hernandez, Baena, Trashorras, Embarba, Miku, Guerra
Real Madrid:
Keylor Navas, Danilo, Varane, Ramos, Marcelo, Kroos, Casemiro, Modric, Jese, Benzema, Rodriguez

Zinedine Zidane has requested Florentino Perez the signing of Leicester City midfielder N’Golo Kante, Spanish website Bernabeu Digital has claimed.

The French manager is seeking to reinforce his midfield line with defensive midfielder, and he believes the France international is the perfect man for the job.

Casemiro has performed brilliantly in that position during the last third of the season. However, it seems like Zidane believes Kante would fit better in his ideal team.

Kante has been one of the best midfielders in the Premier League this season, helping Leicester lead the table with four matches to go and having a real chance of winning the title.

Many European giants have shown an interest in signing the 25-year-old, including Chelsea, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain.

According to these reports, Real Madrid believe they can bring Kante for 25 million euros. However, the competency will be high, and that could raise the player’s price significantly.

Isco

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has admitted Real Madrid midfielder Isco was very close to signing for the Etihad Stadium side in 2013 before the European giants nipped in at the last minute to take him to the Spanish capital.

The 25-year-old enjoyed a successful two-year spell working with the Chilean at Malaga and was hotly tipped to complete a 30 million euro deal to the Premier League when Pellegrini took charge of the Citizens.

In the end, he signed for the Santiago Bernabeu side and has experienced winning the Champions League, Copa del Rey, European Super Cup and World Club Cup in his time as a Los Blancos player.

Speaking to Madrid-based sports paper, Marca, ahead of the Champions League semi-final between the two sides, Pellegrini admitted he was close to securing Isco’s signature three years ago.

“For any footballer it’s a dream to play in Madrid. Isco had everything arranged to play for City, but there were reasons that eventually took him there,” he said.

“I don’t want to analyse those reasons. I understand that he wanted to play in Madrid. It is an experience that made him grow. He is in a great team, always training with great players. Isco would have done great things at City. I’ve always liked the technical, creative, capable midfielders to score goals, which are Silva, Nasri or Santi Cazorla,” he added.

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos says he considered a move to Manchester United last summer but his priority was always to stay with the club.

The World Cup winner was strongly linked with a switch to Old Trafford, potentially as part of a swap deal that took goalkeeper David de Gea to the Santiago Bernabeu. Reports at the time suggested Ramos had fallen out with president Florentino Perez and was willing to accept a fresh challenge abroad.

In the end, the centre back signed a new deal and replaced Iker Casillas as captain of the club when he left for Porto.

Speaking to Cadena COPE, Ramos said: “There was an offer from United. I considered changing for a while but Real Madrid was always my priority and there were no economic reasons. Did I feel cheated by Madrid? No, but I did feel disappointed for a while. There were some troubles that came to an end.”

Discussing potential interest from Chelsea, who will be looking to find a world class replacement for John Terry this summer, the club captain stated: “I have not heard about interest from Chelsea. Many things have always been said. Flattery from big clubs is always good as this is because you are doing well, but if the fans and my club want me.”

Real Madrid defender Alvaro Arbeloa says team mate Cristiano Ronaldo ‘is a bull’ and will be fine for the title run in after fears he had injured his hamstring and could miss the title run in.

Fans were fearing the worst when the 31-year-old limped off the field on Tuesday evening holding his hamstring as Los Blancos beat Villarreal 3-0 to maintain the gap between them and the top two at just one point.

Ronaldo took to Instagram later in the evening to reassure supporters he was fine and thanked them for their concern.

And Arbeloa hailed his team mate by saying: “Ronaldo is like a bull. There is no problem.”

The Spanish media have debated in the past couple of days whether the game against Rayo Vallecano, a team struggling at the foot of the table, is a good chance for boss Zinedine Zidane to rest Ronaldo ahead of next week’s Champions League semi-final first leg against Manchester City.

When quizzed about whether La Liga’s leading scorer should be involved in Vallecas, Arbeloa insisted it is a matter between the three-time Ballon d’Or winner and Zidane.

“The decision will have to be taken between Zidane and him,” the right back stated.

Real Madrid could be nearing an agreement to land Watford left-back Miguel Layun, according to reports from Mexico and Portugal.

The Mexican defender, who is now on loan at Porto, is completing a brilliant season and has caught Los Blancos attention.

Florentino Perez and Zinedine Zidane are seeking for a man who can give Marcelo some rest from time to time, and they believe Layun is the perfect candidate.

Portuguese newspaper A Bola has claimed Porto will not execute their right to buy Layun next summer. Mexican magazine Tiempo Real has reported this is due to Real Madrid’s interest.

Layun, who has completed an impressive season providing 18 assists, was benched for the first time last weekend. Before, he had played every single match of the season.
