Zinedine Zidane earned a great victory in his first match against arch-rivals Barcelona. Los Blancos played a brilliant game in El Clasico and got all three points thanks to goals from Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Los Merengues defended with their lines tightly closed from the start. Yet, an early mistake from Sergio Ramos allowed Barcelona to have a golden chance to take the lead. Neymar runs away from Ramos and delived a wonderful low cross into Luis Suarez, but the striker incredibly failed to find a touch.

Barcelona dominated possession in the first minutes and they threatened Keylor Navas. Ivan Rakitic was superbly denied by the goalkeeper after 20 minutes. In the next play, Messi attempted to move past Ramos and was brought down by the Spaniard, but the referee considered that the centre-back got enough on the ball. Television replays showed the there was a fault, but just outside the box.

Los Blancos improved in the last minutes of the first half, but they were unable to threaten Claudio Bravo.

The hosts had the first big chance of the second half as Leo Messi chipped an effort from the edge of the box, but Navas incredibly flew across his goal to keep the ball out.

Yet, in the next play, Gerard Pique made it 1-0 as he thumped a header past Navas from close range following a super corner from Rakitic.

The visitors levelled only five minutes later as Benzema brilliantly volleyed into the back of the net after a cross from Kroos had been blocked into the path of the Frenchman.

Zidane men played incredible football after that goal and could have scored a couple of goals. In fact, Bale got the ball in the back of net with a precise header but it was unfairly disallowed by the official, who blew for a foul on Jordi Alba.

Ronaldo was close to scoring as he rattled the crossbar with a precise shot from the edge of the box.

Things turned difficult for Real as Ramos was sent off with seven minutes to go. The defender was given his second yellow card for a challenge on Suarez.

However, the visitors reacted brilliantly and scored the winning goal a couple of minutes later. Ronaldo controlled a high Bale cross before firing his effort home from inside the box.

Los Blancos reduce Barcelona’s lead in the table down to seven points and still believe they can win the title. Atletico Madrid are second, six points behind the leaders.

Former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon says current chief Florentino Perez has mismanaged the club this season which is the main reason behind all the troubles experienced by Los Blancos.

The 10-time Champions League winners have had an underwhelming campaign and go into today’s Clasico 10-points behind Barcelona in the league.

A number of high profile players including James Rodriguez, Isco, Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale have had up and down campaigns either suffering from injury or loss of form.

Real have experienced plenty of off-field issues this season too – they sacked Carlo Ancelotti last summer to hire Rafa Benitez but the Spaniard was shown the exit door just seven months later. Zinedine Zidane stepped up to the top job in January having managed Real Madrid Castilla.

The club was thrown out of the Copa del Rey for fielding an ineligible player after the supposed-to-be-suspended Denis Cheryshev featured against Cadiz.

In addition, Real are facing a potential two-transfer window ban for breaching rules over the signing of youth players from overseas.

Speaking to AS, Calderon says the buck stops with Perez for all the struggles.

“The coach who they supported was sacked. They found themselves with another who arrived with his ‘firing notice’ on his forehead. Then they were brought a coach who was coming from the third division, whether he’s named Zidane or not. I believe the players have shown they are well above the level of their president,” he stated.

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos insists Los Blancos are still the best side in the world despite Barcelona being 10-points ahead of them in La Liga.

The Catalans host their fierce rivals later this evening and look on course to win the treble they won last May – La Liga, the Champions League and the Copa del Rey.

Los Cules have dominated European football in recent seasons, winning Europe’s elite club competition in four of the past 10 seasons – 2006, 2009, 2011 and 2015. They,e won five of the past seven La Liga titles too.

But speaking to Bwin ahead of the Clasico, Ramos insists Real are still the team to beat in world football.

“The rivalry has increased, and to score against them would be a bigger joy than scoring against another rival. The key to victory will be playing with maximum tranquillity, which is difficult when you’re facing such important forwards. At the end of the day, we’re the best team in the world playing against another team who in recent years have also been the best in nearly every competition,” he said.

He picked out the BBC and Keylor Navas as being key for the team in the Clasico and for the rest of the campaign.

“They’re dangerous for their quality and that’s what makes them so decisive. Keylor Navas has adapted very well to replacing a Real Madrid legend in Iker. One of the most important things is that the goalkeeper transmits security to his teammates,” he stated.

Real Madrid winger Lucas Vazquez says the attacking trio of Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo can cause plenty of damage to the Barcelona defence ahead of the Clasico.

Much of the build up ahead of the game has focused on each side’s front three – the BBC versus Leo Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar (MSN).

The Catalans’ forward trio have been in sensational form this season and have helped the side to the top of La Liga, the final of the Copa del Rey and the quarter finals of the Champions League.

Speaking ahead of the game, Vazquez told reporters the BBC can be just as dangerous.

“MSN is made up of great players but BBC are also exceptional and right up there, they’re players who make all the difference,” the midfielder stated.

He also went on to say that despite being so far back in the title race, a positive result can have a huge impact for Real’s Champions League ambitions. Real face Wolfsburg in the quarter finals and will be confident of reaching the next stages and taking one step closer to La Undecima.

He commented: “Saturday is very important because of all of the media coverage and in psychological terms ahead of the Champions League.”

Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale says he is a stronger player having overcome his struggles last season.

The Welshman endured a tough second season in the Spanish capital and was subject of fierce criticism from the media and fans alike as Los Blancos ended the campaign empty handed. There was even talk he could quit the La Liga giants and return to the Premier League such was the amount of criticism he was getting.

Despite an injury hit third year at the club, Bale has still manage to net 15 goals in 18 league appearances.

Talking to the media on Wednesday evening, Bale told reporters he learned a lot in his second season and has become a better player for it.

“Last season I didn’t play to anywhere near to my potential. It was important for me to keep working hard, to keep fighting. It is difficult playing in a foreign country. I’ve felt more settled, more involved in the team this year and I think that has shown in performances on the pitch,” he said.
And he added: “It’s good to have a bad season, you really do learn a lot about yourself and I feel this season I took (what happened) last season on board. I understand the game a lot more over here and hopefully there is a lot still more to come in the future.”

Barcelona full-back Aleix Vidal says the players will not be thinking about their huge points advantage when they take on Real Madrid tomorrow.

The Catalans have a 10-point lead over Los Blancos in the title and look set to comfortable retain the trophy they won last May. With a Champions League quarter final coming up against Atletico de Madrid, it has been suggested by some that Barcelona could take it easy in the Clasico knowing that even a defeat won’t dent their title hopes.

But speaking about the match, the most watched club game in football worldwide, Vidal said the Barcelona players will not be thinking about their advantage and are hugely motivated to win.

“We focus on winning and it is true that we have a significant margin of points.

We know what we have to do and from there the two best teams in the world face and anything can happen,” he said.
Speaking about the heavy schedule facing Luis Enrique’s side – they are also in the final of the Copa del Rey – Vidal said the players are prepared for what is to come.

“There is so much motivation to play in these types of games that fatigue remains in the background. A team like ours is able to play many games in a row, we have the best in the world and no matter how many games we play because we will always [play to the] death.”
