Santiago Hernán Solari spoke in press conference before facing Leganés (21:30 local time) on Wednesday in the second leg of the Copa del Rey Last 32 Round. Los Blancos won 3-0 one week ago at Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, so they shouldn’t have many problems to go through to the next round of the competition.

For this reason, Solari will make some changes in the line-up, although he will face the game as if the scoreboard showed 0-0. The manager told the journalists that he had Llorente, Kroos, Asensio and Courtois back on the pitch, “but not at the same pace as the other players”, so we shouldn’t expect them at Butarque. Karim Benzema, injured against Betis, won’t be also available.

The manager was also asked about Isco and the few minutes he’s enjoying lately. The playmaker didn’t play a single minute against Betis despite the many players absent, but Solari didn’t want to give any extra explanation. Asked about the possibility of leaving the club in January, Solari replied: “I’m only the coach”.

The Argentinian spoke more about Vinicius Junior and his good performances in the last games: “He is very talented and he shows the talent when he needs to show it, playing at home and away. Against experienced players and surrounded by experienced players. Vinicius career has a lot of credit, but we have to take care of him because he is only 18 and he has just arrived. The weight of the competition falls back onto the more experienced players”, Solari told in the press conference.

He also was asked about the many youngsters who played on Sunday and his decisions of including them in the line-up: “There are some times that they arrive quicker, but always supported by the more experienced players. The youngsters can play better with their support…. Ramos, Varane, Carvajal, Casemiro are very important and they have to hold the team and the youngsters”.

More problems for Santiago Solari. The team got the first victory in La Liga in 2019 at Benito Villamarín against Real Betis Balompié but the manager lost another important player of the squad. Karim Benzema has his little finger broken at the end of the first half after being tackled by Marc Bartra. The forward will be absent in the next games for Los Blancos facing Sevilla or Espanyol in the next days.

Marcos Llorente, Marco Asensio, Toni Kroos, Mariano Díaz, Gareth Bale, Thibaut Courtois… and now Karim Benzema. Solari is having many problems to design his line-up in the last games and the issues continue after the important injury of Karim Benzema. The French striker was showing a good level this season and against Betis but he was very unlucky breaking his little finger.

In this case, the problem is even bigger. Benzema has no substitute in the squad with Mariano Díaz also absent most of the season. Cristo made his debut at Villamarín in La Liga but he wasn’t very accurate. A team like Real Madrid cannot trust him to lead the attack, together with another unexperienced player like Vinicius Junior, who is growing game by game. Now Solari needs to invent something for the attacking line, with Isco constantly on the bench.

Los Blancos are having many problems in the start of the year and the squad has proven to be insufficient for a top team like Real Madrid. Too many youngsters had to defend the white t-shirt against Betis, with Reguilón, Brahim, Fede Valverde, Cristo or Vinicius having many minutes.

Many things are going wrong this season and the injuries are one of them. Even if the squad could be very short with not many acquisitions during the summer, the physical problems are punishing the players. Marcelo, Casemiro, Carvajal, Bale or Toni Kroos -very important players in this team- have missed many games for injuries.

Los Blancos got the first victory of the year in La Liga (1-2) in a suffered game at Benito Villamarín. Dani Ceballos scored the second goal from a free kick in the last moment of the game after being constantly booed by his former supporters. With many youngster and playing very defensively, Real Madrid improved in the first half but got very lucky in the second one.

Santiago Hernán Solari decided to change the formation for the visit to Betis and he included five defenders in the line-up, with Fede Valverde and Casemiro in the midfield. So it was a quite defensive line-up, without Isco again despite the many absences in the team. Vinicius Jr. started the game although he missed the last training sessions for a flu.

Betis started the game controlling the ball, with a lot of possession and Los Blancos tried to play at the counter attack, with Vinicius Junior and the found the net quite eartly. In the 12th minute, Benzema shot, but the ball ended up in Carvajal feet, who passed to Luka Modric. The Croatian midfielder shot from outside the box scoring the first goal of the game.

After the goal, Los Blancos didn’t suffer and they could score the second with clear chances from Valverde in a counter attack. It was a comfortable first half, without suffering and arriving to Pau’s goal with the possibility to open the gap. The first half ended in a very bad way because Karim Benzema got injured and had to be substituted in the half time for Cristo, who made his debut in La Liga.

In the second half, Betis improved. The pressure was higher and Los Blancos didn’t create any trouble to Pau. The Andalusian team saw Keylor Navas much more and Guardado created some danger with a beautiful volley. In the 66th minute, Canales found the net after the VAR revision. The situation seemed offside, but the referee didn’t think the same. Los Blancos were suffering and Solari put Ceballos and Brahim in the pitch but the team didn’t improve.

Luckily, Ceballos saved the three points with a free kick in the 87th minute. The former Betis player was booed by the supporters and he wanted to take revenge with a very important goal. Los Blancos win their first game of the year in La Liga suffering and not playing very well, again.

The Winter transfer market is open and the rumours spread across Europe. Real Madrid need to reinforce the attacking line and nothing is discarded in the club. The bosses are keeping a close eye to the market because the first months of competition haven’t been good and there were some errors in planning the squad. For this reason, the club might undertake some signings.

One of the options they have for the attacking line is Nabil Fekir. The squad needs another striker because Karim Benzema is not enough. Besides, Mariano Díaz has been injured most of the season and his performances haven’t been as good as it was expected. Another forward would increase competition and the quality of the squad.

Fekir plays for Olympique Lyon and his contract expires in 2020, so the club doesn’t have many options to get money from a transfer. The 25 year old French player is not a ‘9’, but an offensive player, so he would not be the perfect fit for Real Madrid needs. However, he has already shown his ability to score many goals, as last year he was able to score 18 goals in the French League. This season, he has only scored 4 goals in the Ligue 1, keeping the team in third position in the table.

Fekir is ding a great job in the last seasons with Olympique Lyon and the French team even qualified for the knockout stage of the Champions League, facing FC Barcelona. Actually, the Catalan club showed also interest in the offensive player in the past, but now they are more focused on finding a midfielder.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid need to keep a close eye in the market, because a forward is needed. Gareth Bale or Marco Asensio are far below their expected level, so the club needs another player to score goals and keep Cristiano Ronaldo’s level in the past. Some rumours even linked Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Real Madrid, but the Swedish player has extended his contract with LA Galaxy.

Match Report: Celta Vigo 2 - Real Madrid 2: Bale Brilliance Not Enough

We can say that 2018 has been another successful year in the history of Real Madrid. Winning the Champions League trophy again, for 13th time, hide all the other mistakes and defeats in La Liga. Besides, Real Madrid supporters had to say goodbye to two legends: Cristiano Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane. Besides, another coach was sacked by Florentino Pérez: Julen Lopetegui.

2018 will be remembered for the Champions League trophy won in Kiev. Gareth Bale’s amazing goal, Karius mistakes and Cristiano Ronaldo’s farewell in the Ukrainian capital will stay in the memory of the supporters. Real Madrid beat PSG, Juventus with a polemic penalty and Bayern Munich with a lot of suffering to reach that final.

In La Liga things have not going well. Los Blancos lost already the title in 2017 because they started the year 14 points behind FC Barcelona after losing El Clásico. In the new season things have not improved and they are 8 points behind the Blaugranas with one match left against Villarreal on the 3rd of January. It could be even worse because Real Madrid have lost five games so far -Sevilla, Alavés, Levante, FC Barcelona and Eibar-.

In Copa del Rey we cannot say anything positive as well. The team got knockout by Leganés in the quarter-finals last year after winning 0-1 at Butarque, but they lost 1-2 at Santiago Bernabéu in a terrible game.

Also we don’t have good news in the European Supercup. It was Lopetegui’s first official game, but he found a defeat (2-4) against Atlético Madrid in Tallinn. Los Blancos were winning until the last minutes of the game, when Marcelo committed a terrible mistake.

Luckily, the year finished with another trophy. This time it was the FIFA Club World Cup for third straight year. Al-Ain was defeated (4-1) in the final with the goal achieved and the first trophy for Solari as a manager.

Also there were big changes in the squad. An era finished with Zidane and Cristiano Ronaldo’s departures. Julen Lopetegui arrived to the club in June and he was immediately fired from the Spanish national team. Some months later, also Florentino Pérez had to fire him after getting thrashed (5-1) in El Clásico. Solari took over, but the image of the team is not getting better.

In the squad there aren’t many changes. Cristiano left but no star was signed in the summer transfer window. Only Thibaut Courtois was signed as a big star, putting Keylor Navas on the bench. Vinicius or Odriozola also joined Real Madrid. Finally, we want to highlight the loss of weight of Isco and Marco Asensio, both sit usually on the bench.

Keylor Navas future is very uncertain after the last difficult months for the goalkeeper. The Costa Rican announced that he will fight for a place in the starting eleven after the club signed Thibaut Courtois for €35M. He had some opportunities with Julen Lopetegui but his position with Solari is getting even more complicated.

Navas is 32 years old and he won three Champions League titles with Zidane as the main goalkeeper of the team. However, the club has always been searching for a new goalkeeper. First, the idea was signing David De Gea, but the paperwork didn’t arrive on time. Finally, the club signed Courtois and he has taken Navas spot in the line-up.

The keeper has played only two games in La Liga this season -Girona and Getafe- conceding one goal, three Champions League matches -Roma, CSKA Moscow and Viktoria Plzen- conceding only two goals- and the Copa del Rey tie against Melilla, getting one goal. Besides, he also played the European Supercup. Overall, 8 games in the whole season, but only two of them with Solari.

Lopetegui tried to exchange both goalkeepers and, actually, many people complained because of that. Some journalists said that even Florentino Pérez wasn’t happy with this situation because he signed the best goalkeeper of the World Cup to be in the line-up. When Solari stood up as main manager, the Argentinian chose Courtois, putting Navas on the bench in all the games except the Copa del Rey ones.

Now Keylor Navas needs to decide whether to stay at Real Madrid or leave. Los Blancos could listen to offers as Kiko Casilla is still in the squad, so the goalkeeper position is well covered. Nevertheless, the supporters won’t be very happy as Navas is one of the favourite players of the club. So far, Navas has said nothing, but he has to take a decission about his future very soon.

Real Madrid is getting use to lift a title in the last days of the year. After the winning against Al-Ain, Los Blancos have won three straight FIFA Club World and they have 7 world titles in the Bernabéu Museum. However, after one year many things have changed in the team although the DNA of the club continues: winning.

New Manager: The first and most important change came in summer and in the bench. Zinedine Zidane left the club after winning his third Champions League title. Florentino Pérez and the supporters were shocked and sad after his departure. Julen Lopetegui was signed but it was a terrible mistake. After El Clásico, he was sacked and Solari was hired. One title already for the Argentinian CV.

Without Cristiano Ronaldo. Cristiano Ronaldo played the Serie A game against AS Roma while Real Madrid players were touching silverware again. The Portuguese star decided to leave the club and he announced it in the worst moment, after winning the Champions League. Meanwhile, Gareth Bale is the new star of the team, scoring a hat-trick in the semi-finals. The Welshman is still very far from Cristiano Ronaldo’s stats.

Change of Goalkeeper. Keylor Navas was Zinedine Zidane’s goalkeeper. The Costa Rican player conquered the heart of the supporters for his performances in the Champions League and his humbleness. However, the club decided to sign Thibaut Courtois, the best goalkeeper in the World Cup. The Belgian is playing better and better and no one argues anymore his skills.

Change of ranks. Isco or Marco Asensio were very important for Zinedine Zidane. However, this year they are playing very bad and the bench has been his place in the last months. Isco has troubles even with the supporters and Asensio got injured in Abu Dhabi. Meanwhile, Lucas Vázquez had won his spot in the line-up with Solari.

Marcos Llorente was named man of the match in the final of the FIFA Club World Cup and Bale was chosen as the best player of the tournament, winning the Golden Ball after scoring a hat-trick in the semi-finals against Kashima Antlers. Los Blancos win again this title and finish the 2018 in the best way possible.

Marcos Llorente is the best news brought by Santiago Hernán Solari to the team. The young stopper has been one of the best players of the last month, but he played great in the tournament, winning the MVP of the final. Actually, Llorente scored his first goal with the Real Madrid t-shirt in the best moment, with a great volley from outside the box.

“I stay here for sure, I’m happy and I don’t have any intention to leave”, Llorente said after the final questioned about his future. The midfielder was set to leave the club because he had no opportunities but everything has changed in one month. “Life is like that, like football, everything can change overnight. We need to work and taking our chances”.

Another player that leaves Abu Dhabi with more importance in the team is Gareth Bale. The Welshman has always been questioned and criticized as Real Madrid player, but again he showed up in a great moment. FIFA gave him the Golden Ball of the World Cup and now he needs to continue and be more constant.

The Golden Ball of the FIFA Award in 2018 went to Luka Modric and he scored a great goal again from outside the box to unblock the scoreboard. “Everybody tells me to shoot more but I like to assist my colleagues”, the Croatian midfielder said after the final.

And also Sergio Ramos was protagonist of the game. He scored the third goal and he was constantly booed by the supporters, perhaps remembering Salah’s injury in the Champions League final. “Booes are inexplicable. Legends of football should be respected”, the defender told the press.

Real Madrid won their third straight FIFA Club World Cup in Abu Dhabi beating (4-1) Al-Ain in the final. Modric, Llorente, Sergio Ramos and Nader after a shot from Vinicius scored the decisive goals in an easy game against a week rival who tried and gave everything. It is the best possible end to a difficult year, in which the Champions League and the FIFA title are the two achievements to highlight.

As it was expected, Solari put the same starting eleven in final as in the semi-final with Marcos Llorente as a stopper. Again, Bale, Benzema and Lucas Vázquez occupied the attacking line. The team, again, played very poor and very relaxed, aware that their quality was much higher than their rivals.

However, the team could have more problems. In the first minute, Los Blancos could start and the hit the post after a great play by Marcos Llorente. But Al-Ain also caused some problems and Courtois was close to make a penalty and even Sergio Ramos saved a ball in the score line. But the things went in the right way when Luka Modric scored the first goal with a shot from outside the box in the first half. Los Blancos, just walking, were much better than the rival.

Real Madrid started the second half wanting to finish off the game. Actually, Gareth Bale could scored an amazing goal, like in the Champions League final in Kiev, but this time the ball went above the bar. The sentence came in the 59th minute when Llorente put a volley inside the net. It was the perfect finish for Marcos Llorente, a player who was completely forgotten and he’s been one of the best players of the tournament.

It was a final, it was an important game, so Sergio Ramos couldn’t miss his chance to score a goal. The captain scored with a header in the 80th minute and then told the supporters to shut up after being booed the whole game. Ramos always scores even if the defender already know his danger. Shiotani was able to score a great goal from a free kick. A deserved goal after the chances along the match.

However, the title was wrapped up and the goal achieved. There was even time for Vinicius, who was the protagonist in the last goal, shooting and causing the own goal of Nader. Los Blancos finish 2018 touching silverware again.
