Real Madrid midfielder Isco has revealed that his idol growing up was Zinedine Zidane – but he also admired the skills of two ex-Barcelona stars, Ronaldinho and Romario.

In an interview on La Energia de la Roja, the playmaker said spoke about his influences while growing up – and one of the the stars he looked up to was the now Real Madrid Castilla boss.

He said: “My Mum and Dad bought me my first football as a present – it was a rubber one; but I lost it and threw a huge tantrum! The first leather football I got for Christmas – I was known all over the neighbourhood because I would always be seen with that ball. My idols at the time were Zidane, Ronaldinho and when I was younger, Romario.”

Isco, on national duty this week, went on to talk about his experiences with La Roja and the atmosphere both in the Spain camp and with his club. In both, he revealed the players get on well, but that he can’t understand jokes made in the whatsapp group he is part of with other Los Blancos players who are foreign.

“I’d already played with Sergio, Iker, Morata, Carvajal and Nacho – they went out of their way to make me feel at home,” he commented.

“A few of us have formed a wassap group at Madrid. There’s a lot of joking, laughs, the Spanish players have a group. I can’t really understand what the foreign players are talking about half the time…”

Daniel Carvajal has said he can’t imagine Iker Casillas wearing another club shirt other than Real Madrid’s.

The club captain’s future in the Spanish capital is looking increasingly uncertain as David de Gea’s switch from Manchester United to the Santiago Bernabeu looks more likely. Reports this week in Spain said Casillas has spoken to new boss Rafa Benitez and the agreed he could find a new club if he won’t be the number one.

Casillas has two years remaining on his current contract and would be due a payoff of around 14 million euros should he leave Real.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of La Roja’s friendly against Costa Rica, Carvajal said it is hard to imagine the World Cup winner ever leaving.

“Neither or anyone else can imagine Iker Casillas in any other shirt than Real Madrid’s,” he commented.

Speaking about his own situation at international level, the right back said he is happy to keep giving boss Vicente del Bosque a selection headache.

“If I’m here it’s because of the work I’ve done.  Those who know me, know I’m going to try to make things difficult for Del Bosque.  It’s a reward and an honour to be here with these teammates,” he told reporters.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has said he’s looking forward to coming up against Zinedine Zidane this weekend as Liverpool Legends take on Real Madrid Legends in a charity fundraisers.

Iconic names from down the years will take to the pitch at the Sanitago Bernebeu allowing fans to catch a glimpse of the former stars.

And speaking ahead of the match, Carragher admitted that while the fundraising is the most important aspect and the final score irrelevant, the players will still be nervous before kick off.

He told liverpoolfc.com: “You don’t play too often and you don’t want to embarrass yourself, and it’s also taking you back to your playing days. Nobody will want to go out there and embarrass themselves, of course, and touch wood it doesn’t happen.”

Speaking about coming up against 1998 World Cup winner Zidane again, he stated: You’re playing against some world-class former players and I played alongside Zidane in a charity game 12 months ago and he was the best player on the pitch, even then.

“I’m sure Zidane is looking after himself, he trains the [Real] B team so he’s training every day. Fingers crossed the lads have been looking after themselves the last couple of weeks!”

Barcelona star Leo Messi has said there is no big rivalry between him and Real Madrid striker Cristiano Ronaldo and that reports they don’t get on are made up by the media.

The pair have been the two outstanding players in world football in recent years sharing all sorts of goalscoring records, winning endless amounts of trophies and picking up plenty of individual awards along the way.

If the media is to be believed, Messi and Ronaldo are both obsessed with getting one up over the other and beating whatever achievement the other one has done.

But in an interview with Sport List, the Argentina striker, now on international duty at the Copa America, said there is no intense rivalry.

“There’s no rivalry, it’s something invented by the media.  It’s not Messi vs Ronaldo, it never has been.  And regarding Barca I’ve said: ‘Barcelona has given me everything, they gave me the opportunity when no one else would.  I’ve never had any desire to play anywhere else and I’ll be here as long as they want me,” he stated.

Asked about what his career would have been like had he chosen Arsenal over Barcelona as a youth player, he said it’s something he’ll never know but admitted the Premier League is one of the best in the world.

“It’s difficult to say how things could’ve gone because the education I’d have had would’ve been different than the one I had in Barcelona, but it’s obvious that it’s one of the most competitive leagues in Europe.”

Keylor Navas is not sure he will continue playing for Real Madrid next season. The Los Blancos goalkeeper confessed at a press conference prior to Costa Rica’s friendly against Spain that “only God knows if I will stay.”

Navas admitted he has talked to Los Merengues directors about his future: “I have spoken with the club. Only God knows if I will stay at Real Madrid. I hope I can remain a member of the squad to keep fighting for my dream, which is being the starting goalkeeper.”

“I’m not content with what I’ve done at Real Madrid up until now. Things haven’t gone as I wanted to, but these situations have made me stronger,” the Costa Rican explained.

The 28-year-old keeper met his possible rivals for a spot in the starting eleven next year, as Iker Casillas and David de Gea were also in Leon for the game between Spain and Costa Rica. Asked about them, Navas said “I respect everyone, both my team-mates and my rivals.” “Respect is the most important. I’m very quiet and eager to work,” he added.

Speaking of his experience at Real Madrid last season, Navas explained he “tried to learn from everyone.” “I have learned a lot both from Casillas and Pacheco. I try to just think about myself, and I will compete against anyone. I will fight against Iker and try to make things better to help the team when I’m given the chance to play,” he concluded.

Champions League finalists Juventus are expecting Real Madrid to make an offer for midfielder Arturo Vidal, according to the Seria A club’s general manager Giuseppe Marotta.

Vidal has been linked with a move to Madrid in the past although the 10-time Champions League winners have never actually made an offer for him.

But with Rafa Benitez now at the helm, Marotta says the Old Lady are prepared to receive a phone call. The new Los Blancos boss spent the last two seasons in Italy at Napoli and is known to be a keen admirer of the Chile international.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Marotta said: “Real Madrid did not make an attempt to sign him but it is probable that Real will do this in the future because Benitez knows Arturo very well.”

Los Blancos are likely to be on the lookout for a new midfielder this summer after Sami Khedira’s departure to the Turin side leave the squad short – particularly in defensive midfield. Question marks also hang over the future of Asier Illarramendi, who has failed to progress as much as was hoped following his arrival from Real Sociedad two years ago.

The club did confirm last week that Brazilian midfielder Casemiro will remain at the club next season after spending a year on loan at Porto.

Former Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira has said the club will always be in his heart following his move to Juventus.

The German international agreed a Bosman transfer to the Turin side after failing to agree a new deal at the Santiago Bernabeu. And he told reporters this week the decision to leave the Spanish capital after five years wasn’t easy but that he wanted a new challenge.

Khedira joined Madrid in 2010 and was a key member of the side for three years. But a serious knee injury in 2013 halted his progress and following the arrival of Toni Kroos, he was used sparingly by Carlo Ancelotti last summer.

“It was no easy decision (to leave Madrid), that’s no secret. But it is easier when you are the one who decides,” he stated.

And he added: “While I was injured I thought about how and where I would continue my career. Half a year ago it was clear that I wanted a new challenge. It was no decision against Madrid but a decision for something new.

“I did everything for the club for five years, and I hope that people acknowledge that. Real Madrid is in my heart and it will stay there forever.”

La Liga side Villarreal are the favourites to sign Real Madrid man Martin Odegaard on loan next season, according to reports.

The 16-year-old Norwegian wonderkid signed for Los Blancos in a high profile deal in January and has spent most of his time so far featuring for the Real Madrid Castilla side under Zinedine Zidane’s leadership.

He did however make his first team debut for the 10-time Champions League winners on the final day of the season, becoming the youngest player to appear in the top flight in Spain.

While his long-term future is at the Santiago Bernabeu, the club is keen to help his progress by loaning him out next season. Scottish champions Celtic have been mentioned as a possible destination. But the Daily Mail reports Villarreal want to sign Odegaard on a temporary deal next season.

The paper claims the Yellow Submarines are the favourites for his signature as it would mean continuing his professional development in Spain. The El Madrigal side also have a good reputation for giving young players a chance in the first team – something that would appeal to Real Madrid’s coaches as they look to fast track Odegaard into the first team setup in the Spanish capital.

Atletico de Madrid boss Diego Simeone has named Real Madrid as the favourites to win the La Liga title next season.

The Argentinean lead his side to league success in 2013-14 after a remarkable campaign that also saw the Vicente Calderon side reach the Champions League final. This year, Luis Enrique guided Barcelona to the title. The Catalan outfit then went on to record their second treble in six years, winning the Champions League and Copa del Rey too.

Los Blancos meanwhile have won only one league title in the past seven years, a stat that is not good enough for a club of its stature. Carlo Ancelotti paid the price for the failure to win the league this season and was replaced last week by Rafa Benitez, who will be under huge pressure to deliver first time round.

Speaking to AS, Simeone said Real will be determined to win La Liga next season having not won it often enough in recent years.

“Dangerously complicated for any team other than Real Madrid because it can’t happen that Real Madrid wins only one league after seven years. So, I see [the Liga title race] dangerously prepared for Real Madrid, sadly,” the Rojiblancos boss stated.

Real Madrid are reportedly seeking for a left-back, as Fabio Coentrao is expected to leave the Santiago Bernabeu this summer. Los Blancos have been eyeing a few players during the season, and they have already made their first offer, according to Marca.

The Spanish newspaper has claimed Chelsea defender Filipe Luis has rejected an offer from Los Merengues. Real directors have reportedly contacted the former Atletico Madrid man’s agent, but Filipe Luis has even refused to hear Los Blancos proposal.

The 29-year-old is not interested in signing for Real despite having a disappointing first season at Stamford Bridge. Filipe arrived last summer at Chelsea but he has failed to earn a spot in the starting eleven. In fact, he has only played 13 games in the Premier League.

Filipe Luis spent one season at Real Madrid back in 2005, when he joined Los Blancos reserve team from Brazilian side Figueirense. After that he spent four seasons at Deportivo de La Coruna before signing for Atletico, where he played for four years.

The Brazilian could be seeking for a transfer move due to the lack of minutes of play at Chelsea, but his first option is returning to Atletico, according to reports from the Spanish press.
