Carlo Ancelotti has insisted the club will attempt to resolve the contract issues with Xabi Alonso and complimented his team on their friendly victory over Paris Saint-Germain.

Los Blancos were 1-0 victors over a star-studded Parisian side with Jese Rodriguez scoring Real Madrid’s first goal and consequently their first win of 2014.

Ancelotti met with the media following the final whistle: “It was not easy to play after the break and having not done anything for a week. Real Madrid played well and it was a good match to watch. PSG played well too”.

On Jese’s performance, he said: “The players are pleased to get the minutes. Everyone wants to play more, but for us it is important that when they play, they play well, and that is what he is doing”.

The Italian was full of praise for his former employers: “PSG have a great team and played very well. They are very confident and have a very nice, stable style of play”.

When asked about the La Liga table, he said: “It’s a very competitive competition. Atletico and Barcelona are having a great season and we will try to make up the points in the second half of the season, play well and get on a good run of results”.

Reporters then asked for Ancelotti’s thoughts on Cristiano Ronaldo and should he win the Ballon d’Or, he said quite simply: “Yes. He’s playing very well”.

Attention then turned to Casillas’ situation and Alonso’s renewal: “Casillas’ situation is very clear: he will play in the Champions League and the cup as well. About Xabi Alonso; I think that we will find a solution and reach an agreement between club and player”.

Finally, he made it clear Real Madrid would not be active in the transfer window: “There is nothing new regarding that. No players are leaving and we’re not going to sign anyone. The window is closed for us”.

After his contract with Borrusia Dortmund ends, Lewandowski is anticipated to switch to German rival Bayern Munich next summer.

Although Real Madrid are still benefiting from Welsh Gareth Bale from last summer, they are reportedly planning a profitable salary bid to Lewandowski.

Yet Lewandowski said to Polish TV show Cafe Futbol: “I do not know if [it will be] Real Madrid or Bayern Munich. Currently I’m a Borussia Dortmund player.”

Anytime from this month, the Polish striker will be allowed to sign a pre-contract with any club he chooses and he is enthusiastic regarding starting fresh in a new club.

English giants Manchester City are reportedly attempting to sign Iker Casillas and Sergio Ramos in an ambitious raid on Real Madrid, according to reports in Spanish daily As.

The club, known as one of the “petro-clubs” with Malaga and PSG due to their Qatari ownership, won the Premier League in 2011/12 and are looking to be one of the contenders for the title in England.

However, Manuel Pellegrini, the former manager of Real Madrid, is also looking for continental silverware, and believes that with the signing of Casillas and Ramos would certainly help City build a side capable of winning the Champions League.

Pellegrini has been linked to Casillas a lot recently, with City keeper Joe Hart struggling with form and Casillas being frozen out by Jose Mourinho and current boss Carlo Ancelotti, both preferring Diego Lopez in goal.

Ramos is more of a shock however, as Ramos is one of Real’s key players and is a well-liked member of the Los Blancos squad, but the Spanish international is looking for an improved contract to put him on a par with the likes of Bale and Ronaldo, and if he cannot get that at the Bernabeu, City may become a lucrative option.

Jese Rodriguez scored the only goal of the game as Real Madrid defeated Paris Saint Germain in their first match of the year, a friendly played in Doha, Qatar.

Cristiano Ronaldo had the first chance to score, but his strike from 35 metres hit the bar. Diego Lopez denied Edison Cavani’s shot before Jese made it 0-1.

With 18 minutes on the clock, Los Blancos took the lead when Alvaro Morata slid a fine ball into the path of Jese and the Canary Islands-born winger sent it to the back of the net.

PSG had to struggle with an enthusiastic crowd who favoured Los Merengues. However, the first half produced plenty of open football and good scoring chances for both sides.

After the break, the French club enjoyed most of the possession and Zlatan Ibrahimovic almost scored with a brilliant header, but the offside flag was up.

At the hour mark, Thiago Silva’s effort from a corner deflected off a defender. Thiago Motta pick up the follow-up but his header cleared the bar.

Lucas Moura went close for PSG in stoppage time, but his strike flew narrowly wide.

Carlo Ancelotti maintained his unbeaten run in friendly games with Los Blancos, and it was in a special match for him, as his side defeated his former team.

Cristiano Ronaldo has admitted his main objective for 2014 is winning the Champions League title, in an interview with Portuguese sports newspaper Record.

Conquering Europe this year would be even more special for Ronaldo, since the final will be played at Benfica’s, the arch-rivals of Sporting Portugal, the club where Cristiano grew up.

“Winning the Champions League at Estadio da Luz would be the icing on the cake,” said Ronaldo, who admitted he’s a big fan of the Lisbon club.

When asked about a possible reencounter with Jose Mourinho in case Real Madrid and Chelsea met in the competition, Ronaldo said: “I have no problems with any coach, and I would work again with any of them because all of them were important at some point in my career.”

“Carlos Queiroz, for instance, was one of the most important coaches for the evolution of my game. I wish him every success, especially in the World Cup of Brazil,” the Portuguese added. Queiroz is currently the manager of Iran national team.

Ronaldo also told Record that the only title missing in his curriculum is the Portuguese league: “Winning the title with Sporting is the only thing missing in my CV. I don’t know if that will happen because nobody knows about the future, but it would be an honour.”

Pedrag Spasic is remembered at Santiago Bernabeu as one of the worst centre-backs that have passed by the club. The Serbian arrived to Real Madrid in 1990 as one of the most promising defenders in the world. In fact, Los Blancos paid Partizan Belgrado 1.2 million euros, a big amount for that time.

The circumstances in which Spasic signed for Madrid were certainly strange. Alfredo di Stefano, the team’s manager back then, saw him in a match between Serbia and Spain in Italy 1990 World Cup. The defender had a good performance stopping Los Merengues star Emilio Butragueno, and Di Stefano was so impressed he requested his signing.

Ramon Mendoza, the president at that time, had his doubts over Spasic for a very curious reason: “Our first intention was to rule his signing out, since we thought he was older than 30 years, because of his baldness. When we found out his real age, we went for him,” he told Spanish newspaper El Pais.

The 25-year-old was nicknamed Agent Spasic at his arrival, as everyone expected him to become the leader of Real’s defence. Far from that, the Serbian became a historic failure that would be remembered for years.

Since his debut against Sevilla everybody started having doubts over his real skills. And the night of January 19th 1991 destroyed the Serbian’s hopes to triumph in La Liga. With a 1-1 in the scoreboard, Spasic broke the deadlock with a superb header… in his own goal. The Camp Nou chanted his name.

The Serbian went on to make only 22 appearances for Los Merengues, offering a very poor performance and being widely criticized by most of the fans. At the end of the season, Real took the logical decision and let Spasic leave to Osasuna.

He stayed at Pamplona three seasons, where he was a bit more successful. He made 88 appearances scoring three goals. However, the team was relegated and he signed for Second Divison side Atletico Marbella. He only played five games that season before moving back to Serbia, to Radnicki Jugopetrol, where he retired at 31 after having appeared in only eight matches.

Spasic lives now in a small town in his home country, where he still remembers that terrible night at Nou. “It was a nightmare,” he confessed to Spanish daily As in an interview a couple of years ago.

Real Madrid is eyeing Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Paulinho for the January transfer market, said the Daily Telegraph.

Since his arrival to White Hart Lane, Paulinho has had a rough time after manager Andre Villas-Boas’ departure, as the Portuguese coach had brought him to London.

There is speculation of Real tempting the Brazilian to the Bernabeu.

The English club spent 17 million euros to acquire Paulinho, including an excess of 100 million euros and more of spending spree. Although manager Tim Sherwood would not want to lose him according to reports.

Despite Paulinho being a midfield option for Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti, he has numerous options in his team like Sami Khedira, Xabi Alonso, Luka Modric and Asier Illarramendi. Although the players would be battling for spots, Ancelotti is considering to obtain Paulinho.

Over the summer, the Spanish club has tired Tottenham into selling Welsh player, Gareth Bale. They may repeat the same procedure in January.
