Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has admitted that Real Madrid is even bigger than he thought before he took the job, after six months as manager of Los Blancos.

The 54-year-old has managed some of the biggest clubs in the world, including Juventus, Milan and Chelsea, but even Ancelotti is astounded by Real Madrid’s stature.

Speaking to the club’s official website, the head coach said “Living in a club like Real Madrid is very different from how you think it will be from outside. I have always thought that it is a prestigious club with a lot of history and tradition, but experiencing it from inside is different.”

He added that being in charge of such big clubs means you have to expect media attention wherever you go, “Everyone says that Real Madrid is the most prestigious club in the world and it is true because every time we go to a hotel or an airport, the fans are right behind the team and the club,” Ancelotti stated.

As well as speaking glowingly about his experience of managing Real Madrid to date, he also discussed his love of Madrid as a city and compared it to Rome. “It is a city with a very similar culture to what you see in Italian cities. I would compare it to Rome because of its history.  It is very different to London or Paris. People here like to talk, share, greet each other and socialise more.”
