Premier League side Arsenal are targeting Real Madrid star Sami Khedira as their big summer signing, according to British press.

The Independent reports that Arsenal are making defensive midfield as the key area to strengthen during the summer window, and that the 27-year-old German fits the bill.

Khedira has had an injury plagued season, and that has affected his status in not only the Real squad, but his national team too.

And a move to the Gunners could provide him with a revitalising change in his career, with the German only having a year left on his contract at the Bernabeu.

Because of the length of his contract, Real would not want to lose Khedira for free in 2015, and an offer of around 28 million euros is maybe too hard to resist, and with wages of 70,000 euros per week, Arsenal would deem him as within their wage bracket.

The German, who came through the ranks at his hometown club of Stuttgart, has made 144 appearance for Los Blancos, and the upcoming game with France should be his 50th cap for Germany.

Khedira won the Bundesliga with Stuttgart in 2007, and played five times for Real in Europe on the way to Real’s famous La Decima.
