Arsene Wenger coy on Sami Khedira talk

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has refused to rule out a move for Real Madrid man Sami Khedira as he admitted he is still looking to strengthen his squad.

The Frenchman watched his side beat Benfica 5-1 in the Emirates Cup on Saturday, but much of the post-match talk was about the summer transfer market and who he intends on bringing in during the final weeks of the window.

The FA Cup winners have been linked with 27-year-old Khedira all summer long as they look to add some strength in the centre of midfield. The German World Cup winner has just a year left on his contract in Spain and Los Blancos would prefer to sell him this summer rather than lose him on a free transfer next year.

When asked if he has made an enquiry for Khedira, Wenger responded: “What is enquire for you? I don’t know. If I read the newspapers, he is available.”

And he continued:”Who’s next? I don’t know. There could still be one signing, maximum of two. If a good opportunity comes up we might still do it, but at the moment we are not close to signing anybody.”

Khedira missed much of last season with a serious knee injury but made his comeback in time to help Los Blancos to success in the Champions League in May.
