Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has said he is delighted with how the team has progressed during pre-season and that Los Blancos are shaping up nicely for a successful season.

The likes of Asier Illarramendi, Isco, Daniel Carvajal and Casemiro have all had playing time during the pre-season games, giving them the opportunity to adjust to Real’s type of play and style.

Speaking to the press ahead of the grudge match against Ancelotti’s old club Chelsea – now lead by Jose Mourinho – the Italian said he was pleased with events since he took over at the club.

“I’m happy with the squad. We have a young, good, and strong team. I’m also satisfied because we have worked well, the injured players have gotten better, and we haven’t had any other injuries in this period. That’s why I think the season is going to start well,” he stated.

The former PSG boss also took time to discuss various bits of transfer speculation, and chiefly that of Cristiano Ronaldo and Pepe.

Ancelotti stated Ronaldo and the club both want him to renew his deal, while Pepe has been told he is an important member of the squad and will not be allowed to leave.
