Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has had his say on why Mesut Ozil was allowed to leave the club – claiming it was the German’s decision.

Much has been said about the 50 million euro deal to Arsenal, with the 24-year-old saying he felt undervalued at the Santiago Bernabeu, while club president Florentino Perez and assistant boss Zinedine Zidane both questioned the player’s professionalism.

At his unveiling as an Arsenal player, Ozil said it took one phone call from manager Arsene Wenger to convince him to join the north London side.

Madrid- based daily AS has quotes from Ancelotti about the deal, with everyone else having had they say already.

The Italian is quoted as saying: “Many people have talked about this issue and now I will. He has spoken about a lack of confidence over three games, two of which he started. No-one leaves Real Madrid unless they want to.

“With Isco and Bale arriving, he realised he was going to have a lot of competition for a place and asked to leave. The board decided that he could leave if the right offer came in. I wish him luck.”
