Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo says he is a better player than Barcelona rival Leo Messi and he doesn’t take any notice of what others think.

The 30-year-old was interviewed by the BBC ahead of the release of a new film about him next week and he revealed he believes he has been at the top level for the past eight years and that there’s little more he can do to improve.

Ronaldo has won the Ballon d’Or three times in his career and recently became Real’s all time leading scorer. Every year, much debate goes on in the media and between fans in pubs and bars all over the world over who is the best player in the world.

The Los Blancos forward is in no doubt though. “I don’t need to say ‘I’m in the history of football, I’m a legend’. The numbers say everything,” he said.

“To improve more it’s very tough. I just want to maintain because this is I think the most difficult part for a football player. In my mind, I’m always the best. I don’t care what people think, what they say. In my mind, not just this year but always, I’m always the best,” he added.

And on comparisons with Messi, he stated: “It’s opinions, I respect the opinions. Maybe in your opinion Messi is better than me, but in my mind I am better than him. So it’s simple.”
