Former Real Madrid right back Michel Salgado says star striker Cristiano Ronaldo is under-appreciated for all the fine work he does for the team.

The 30-year-old became the club’s leading league scorer in its history last weekend with his five goal haul against Espanyol. He followed that up with a hat trick in the Champions League during the week to take him to 80 goals in the competition – a new record.

Speaking to AS, Salgado, who made more than 250 appearances during an illustrious career at the Santiago Bernabeu, said the forward doesn’t get the recognition he deserves and people don’t realise just how hard Ronaldo works.

“How he works is spectacular and what he’s doing is impressive, equalling Messi’s records and winning Ballons d’Or when it’s so difficult, because you have a player like Lionel Messi,” he stated.
And he added: “I don’t think people realise the value of Cristiano and the effort he puts into winning what he wins.”
The ex-defender also went on to add how impressed he is with Daniel Carvajal.

“For me, Dani Carvajal is a special full-back and is amazing in defence and attack and has the perfect balance. He’s a player who has learned to defend over the past two years at Real Madrid. He has quality, gets down the other end, can put in a good cross and is currently first choice for both real Madrid and Spain.”
