Real Madrid’s new signing Danilo will be a great asset to the club for many years, according to former left-back Roberto Carlos.

The 23-year-old Porto defender has agreed to join Los Blancos at the end of the current campaign in a 31.5 million euro deal and has signed a deal that lasts until 2021. Both Real Madrid and Porto announced the transfer earlier this week.

The Brazilian will compete with Daniel Caravajal for the right-back spot in Carlo Ancelotti’s side, and Roberto Carlos says his compatriot has all it takes to success at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Speaking to Cadena Copa, the 41-year-old said: “I follow the Portuguese league. Danilo is a very good full-back and a very good player.”

He then went on to speak about how he compares to other Brazilian full-backs, saying he is similar to Barcelona’s Dani Alves but very different to former Brazil captain Cafu.

“He is a very complete full-back because he attacks very well. Real Madrid have carried out a great signing because he has a lot of quality,” Roberto Carlos added.

The 2002 World Cup winner spent the best part of 10 years at the Santiago Bernabeu, and won La Liga and the Champions League among a host of trophies.
