Kiko Casilla defended Real Madrid goal against Alavés and he did it with great success again. Los Blancos kept a clean sheet after seven games in a row conceding goals. Curiously, Casilla was the goalkeeper in that last game, against Espanyol in the 18th of February. Should the Spanish goalkeeper replace Keylor Navas.

The Costa Rican goalkeeper had some rest after the trip to America to play with his national team in the Hexagonal to qualify for the Russian World Cup. Keylor Navas had poor performances in the two games with Costa Rica and his national team lost and drew against Mexico and Honduras.

These poor performances with Costa Rica can be added to the bad games played with Real Madrid. Keylor Navas made a huge mistake against Betis and he could have done more against Las Palmas or Napoli, for instance. He’s receiving several criticism from Real Madrid supporters, who are booing him in the home games at Santiago Bernabéu stadium.

On the other hand, Kiko Casilla is showing his great skills every time he has the chance. Against Alavés he kept a clean sheet and showed security in every aerial ball, although he made one small mistake. Casilla has played 8 games in La Liga keeping four clean sheets and conceding six goals, whereas Keylor Navas has played 20 games with four clean sheets and conceding 22 goals.

After the game, Casilla was asked about keeping a clean sheet: “It’s everybody’s fault. We’ve done a game with a good result, but it wasn’t because of the way we played. It’s been tough. There weren’t spaces to play. Happy for the three points and for the clean sheet”.

The goalkeeper was also asked about Keylor Navas: “We have a completed squad. Keylor? It’s quite unfair how he’s been criticised and how he’s been treated, it’s a lack of respect. People don’t have memory and don’t remember the good things. They only remember the bad things. I leave to the press the debates about the goal”, Casilla said.

Apart from this debate, both have to hear some rumours about new goalkeepers arriving to Real Madrid. Apart from David de Gea or Thibaut Courtois, the German magazine Kicker published that Los Blancos are interested on Bernd Leno, the young goalkeeper of Bayer Leverkusen.

Real Madrid beat Alavés on Sunday (3-0) suffering a bit against a newly promoted team. Los Blancos played a good first half, but the Basque team played better in the second half, arriving to Casilla’s goal with danger. However, Zidane’s side could finally close the game thanks to a great goal scored by Isco.

The opening goal was scored by Karim Benzema, doubtlessly the best player in the attacking line. Gareth Bale is still struggling after his injury and he played another poor game, despite the free kick shot that hit the bar. Cristiano Ronaldo tried several times but he was unable to score in another discrete game.

On the other hand, Karim Benzema looked very comfortable on the pitch. Alavés played with three full backs, so Benzema’s mobility helped the team and created several chances, especially in the first half. He was able to score the goal after a great assist from Dani Carvajal and he lead the team in the attacking line.

Benzema was heavily criticized this season, but he completed a superb month of March. In April Real Madrid will have to face Atlético Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Múnich, so Zidane needs the players at his bests, and Benzema is looking fitter than ever.

Benzema scored his 17th goal of the season and his 9th goal in La Liga. Overall, the French player has scored 178 goals with Real Madrid. Besides, Benzema has been able to score to every single team he has faced in La Liga. He’s played with 31 teams in La Liga and all of them have received goals from Benzema. It could be 32 if the French striker scores again on Wednesday against the newly promoted team Alavés.

In the last games, he scored very important goals against Eibar and Athletic Club on the road, helping the team to win in these difficult stadiums. Besides, he was the best player on the pitch in the first leg of the Last 16 Round in the Champions League tie against Napoli. Benzema deserves the confidence after 8 season with Real Madrid. Zinedine Zidane spoke at press conference after Real Madrid’s victory against Alavés in the 29th week of the regular season. The French manager highlighted todays’s match, Isco’s performance, the number of matches they must play on April and Varane’s injury, who couldn’t finish the match because of muscular problems.

Zidane started the press conference talking about today’s match: “We played against t a team that plays really good. In the first half we were superiors but in the second one we played a bit worse, especially in the possession of the ball, but finally we could score three goals that gave us the victory”, Zidane affirmed

Varane left the pitch in the 11th minute because of muscular problems and the journalists didn’t doubt in asking the severity of the injury: “Rafa Varane has hurt himself in the same place as the last injury but it doest’s seem as strong as the other time. I hope it will be short, we will see tomorrow with the resonance”, the French manager said.

The French manager did many changes in the line-up because Los Blancos will have to play many important games in April and with the players who don’t play in the usual starting 11,Real Madrid didn’t do a good match:” We know we must improve, but playing every three days you cannot always play good the 90 minutes. We must be more constant. We played a very good first half but in the second one we lost the ball easily. Real Madrid won 3-0 against Alavés in the 29th week of the regular season, that maintain them in the top of the table. Los Blancos didn’t play their best match, but finally they could achieve the three points with two goals in the last 10 minutes. Zinedine Zidane decided to do some changes in the line up, thinking in Wednesday match and the accumulation of games Los Blancos will have on April. The French manager introduced Kiko Casilla, Pepe in the full bak with Varane, Nacho in the left back instead Marcelo and Danilo in the right back.

Real Madrid started the match with a lot of intensity and having several chances. The team managed by Zinedine Zidane were having the ball possession and Cristiano had the first opportunity to score the first goal of the match. in the 10th minute Varane had to leave the pitch because of a muscular injury and Carvajal replaced him. Benzema was being the best player on the field participating in almost all the plays, playing in the left wing. Alavés were proving that they are a very uncomfortable rival because they were defending really good and very organized. In the 30th minute Benzema opened the scoreboard from a great pass of Carvajal. In the last 15 minutes of the first half, Los Blancos controlled the game and they went to the dressing room with a goal of advantage.

Alavés had the first chance of the second half with a header of Deyverson, after a foul to Casilla. Los Blancos lowered their level in the second half and the Basque side were feeling more confortable in the pitch, having several chances to tie the match. In the 67th minute Zinedine Zidane replaced Modric, who didn’t play a good match, and his compatriot, Kovacic entered to play the last 20 minutes. Real Madrid were having many problems to control the game and they were waiting for a counterattack to score the second one. In the 80th minute Lucas Vázquez replaced Benzema, who was being the best player of the squad. In the last five minutes Isco scored the second goal in a counterattack with a great shot and only two minutes later Nacho scored the third one from a rebound from a free kick of Bale.

Los Blancos could achieve the three points in a very tough game against a very defensive team that are very organized. We can say that the MVP of the match was Benzema once again, because he played a very complete game being the reference in the attack. Now the team managed by Zidane must think in Wednesday game against Leganés at Estadio Municipal de Butarque.

The French manager highlighted the number of games they will play on April, he also answered Piqué, he spoke about which team he will not train, their opponent and other important topics.

Zinedine Zidane started the press conference talking about tomorrow’s rival, Alavés:” They are a very good squad. The won at Camp Nou and tied against Atlético Madrid at Vicente Calderón. Alavés are enjoying one of the best seasons in their history. The newly promoted team is in the middle of the table in the Spanish league, far from the relegation zone, and they are in the Copa del Rey final against FC Barcelona. One of the main reasons for this success is the Real Madrid player Marcos Llorente, who cannot play on Sunday with his team at Santiago Bernabéu.

Mauricio Pellegrino arrived to Alavés to avoid the relegation. However, he’s done a superb job and he has been able to build a great team, especially in the defense area. One of the key players is the stopper, Marcos Llorente, who is on loan this season from Real Madrid.

Real Madrid included a clause in the loan contract, so Marcos Llorente cannot play at Santiago Bernabéu: “I’d love to play and I’m annoyed, but when you go on loan, you know these things happen. About the game, it won’t be unlikely to get a point at Santiago Bernabéu, we already did it at Camp Nou and Calderón”, Llorente remembered. Actually, Alavés drew in the first game of the season at Vicente Calderón and they were able to beat Barcelona (1-2) at Camp Nou.
