Real Madrid won 1-2 in the 29th week of the regular season against Athletic Bilbao. The team managed by Zinedine Zidane played a complete match in one of the toughest stadiums, actually the Basque side is the best team at home in La Liga, only behind Real Madrid. Athletic have only lost one match in their stadium in the current season and it was against Barcelona. Zinedine Zidane decided to play with his usual line-up because he knew it was going to be a very difficult game.

Athletic Bilbao started the game with a lot of intensity as they usually do at San Mamés, but they didn’t create any important opportunity. Los Blancos were waiting their moment, and in the 15th minute Cristiano Ronaldo had the first chance to open the scoreboard, but Kepa Arrizabalaga prevented it with a great safe. After this chance, the team managed by Zinedine Zdiane started to play better and Benzema scored the fist goal of the match from a great pass of Cristiano Ronaldo. The French striker was participating a lot in the game and he played probably his best match in all the season.

The second half started similar as the first one. The Basque team were trying to create danger from the sides, but both Sergio Ramos and Nacho Fernández showed a lot of security in the defense. In the 62nd minute the French manger decided to do some changes in the line-up because Los Blancos were not having the control of the match. He decided to introduce Lucas Vázquez by Modric. It was a really weird change because Gareth Bale was not participating in the game and without Modric on the pitch, Real Madrid were going to have even less the ball. Only three minutes after the substitution, Athletic Bilbao tied the game from a header of Aritz Aduriz. It seemed like Los Blancos could lose the match, but only two minutes later Casemiro scored the second goal from a corner kick. This goal was very important because Athletic were having their best minutes. Zidane decided to introduce another midfielder with the goal of controlling the match, and he replaced Cristiano Ronaldo by Isco. Morata also entered on the pitch replacing Benzema in the last minutes.

This has been a very important victory for the team managed by Zidane because San Mamés is the toughest away game remaining this season. Now Real Madrid will not play until April 2 against Alavés (international break) and Zinedine Zidane can not count with one of the most important players in the squad, Casemiro (5 yellow cards). We can say that the MVP of the match was Karim Benzema. The French striker is improving with the pass of the games and these are very good news for Los Blancos.

He is a key player in Bayern Munich midfield because he is a very complete midfielder who has a great long pass and a very powerful long shot.

Thiago Alcantara: FC Barcelona former player is a very technical player who has a good pass and skills. The Spaniard playmaker signed with Bayern Munich four years ago from Barcelona and Carlo Ancelotti is giving him a lot of continuity this season.

Arturo Vidal: He is the stopper of the team. The Chilean midfielder is a very aggressive player who can steal a lot of balls and he is characterized because he is player who defends very good and who like to appear in the attack, a box to box midfielder. This will be his second year at Munich after playing at Bayer Leverkusen and Juventus.

Arjen Robben: The veteran wing is still being one of the most fastest players in all Europe. Despite his age, 33 years old, the Dutch player still dribbles in the right side, being a very difficult player to defend. Arjen Robben signed with Bayern Munich 8 years ago from Real Madrid, after starting his career in the Premier League, Chelsea.

Douglas Costa: The Brazilian wing has a lot of skills and with Robben they are the fastest players in all the squad. Costa likes to dribble and create danger from the wings because his is very fast and he also is a very technical player. The Brazilian player played for Shakhtar six seasons and Guardiola decided to sign him last year for an amount of €30M last year.

Robert Lewandowski: Real Madrid supporters will remind him because he scored 4 goals to Los Blancos playing for Borussia Dortmund. Lewandowski is one of the most complete strikers in the world and year by year he is showing it scoring many goals. In the current season, the Polish striker has scored 21 goals in the Bundesliga and 7 in Champions League. Real Madrid defense must control this player because in any defensive mistake, he can score you a goal.

Zinedine Zidane spoke in press conference just one hour after knowing his rival in the quarter-finals of the Champions League and one day before facing Athletic Club in La Liga. The Real Madrid manager joked about the possibility of fixing the draw: “I laugh and that’s it”.

The French coach only had good words for Ancelotti. We have to remember that he worked as an assistant coach when Los Blancos won the 10th Champions League in 2014: “It will be special for me, I learnt a lot by his side and he did great things for the club. Now we don’t have to think in the Champions League but in San Mamés”, Zidane said.

The manager also analyzed a bit Bayern Múnich: “I didn’t speak with Carlo, I don’t think they fear us. They have a good team and we know they are very strong, they are doing great and it’s going to be a great game for football”.

Zidane is happy to play the second leg at Santiago Bernabéu: “I learnt a lot with Carlo and he’s a good person. We knew what he did here and the tie is 50-50. Playing the first leg there could be better. I don’t have any preference, we are going to play away and we know we’ll have to score there, and then in the second leg”.

Romelu Lukaku has decided to reject any offer from his current club. The Belgian striker doesn’t want to renew his contract with Everton, so the club will need to sell him in the summer transfer window. It’s a good opportunity for all the big clubs, including Real Madrid.

His current contract with the Toffees expires in 2019, so there is plenty of time to reach an agreement. However, the footballer has decided to reject every offer from his current club and find a new team with the possibility of winning titles. According to the British media, Manchester United or Real Madrid could be the options, The Sun informs.

His only experience with a big club was a failure. Chelsea bought him in 2011 from Anderlecht paying €22M. He arrived very young to the South-West London club, so he was given on loan to West Bromwich Albion. With the Baggies, Lukaku lived a very successful season, scoring 17 goals. He went back to Chelsea, but was given again on loan to Everton, where he scored 15 goals in his first season. So, overall, he played 10 games for Chelsea in the Premier League without finding the net.

At Goodison Park the story is very different. Everton paid €35M in 2014 to Chelsea for his transfer and he’s been the Toffees star since then. In the current season he’s scored 19 goals, one net more than the last season. Therefore, Lukaku has become one of the best strikers in the Premier League, and desired for every single club in the islands.

The transfer will be tough though. Everton paid a lot of money to Chelsea and they won’t sell the Belgian striker for less money. Besides, if the relationship between the club and the player keeps going bad, Everton could be reluctant to sell him in the summer transfer window.

Lukaku could be a good option for the Real Madrid attacking line. Benzema is very irregular this season and even Sergio Ramos has scored more goals than the French striker in La Liga. Álvaro Morata is shining when he comes out from the bench but he might want to change team at the end of the current season. So Lukaku’s option could be another alternative for the attacking line.

Zinedine Zidane spoke with Fifa.com in a deep interview about his feelings in the first months as Real Madrid manager. The French coach talked about the success with Los Blancos and the difference between being a player or a manager in a great club.

Zidane analyzed how he was very successful in a very short time: “I wished it. When you are at Real Madrid they expect you to the the maximum to win everything, so the demand is very high since my arrival. Having said that, I know that winning the Champions League in first year was extraordinary, but know we are fighting to win back-to-back titles and also to win La Liga. The titles remained in the past very quickly and we always have to win again”, the coach said.

His career as a manager is short and successful. Did Zidane expect that?: “No, because when I was a player I said to myself that I would never be a manager. After retiring, I focused in other things, although I was always inside football and close to Real Madrid. Then I realized that I wanted to be on the pitch. So, I started to get ready to be a coach. Now it’s the thing I like the most!”, Zidane explained.

The manager was also asked about the differences between winning as a manager or as a player: “It’s similar but not the same. The emotion is the same but I’d say that you enjoy them even more as a manager because get those victories is more difficult”. According to Zidane it’s more difficult to be a coach: “The best sample about this is that, as a coach, you spend more hours a day to football”, he said.

Zidane spoke about the step forward of managing Real Madrid: “When I was chosen to be the manager I knew that the task was going to be very difficult. I was Castilla coach but I knew pretty well that I was going into a very different dimension. But I felt ready because I knew the club. After 15 years in the club I knew what was the meaning of the dressing room and the club”, Zidane commented.

Finally, Zizou spoke about the hard word: “It’s what I like the most! This is the best advice I received in my career. Beyond the talent, you have always to be ready to work. Without work you can’t do nothing”, Zidane finished.
