Nicolás Otamendi would be a good replacement for Pepe at Real Madrid. This is what his agent thinks and it could be a great signing for Los Blancos although it would be a expensive one because Manchester City paid €48M to Valencia only two seasons ago.

One of Otamendi’s agents, Martín Sendoa, has said to Radio Intercontinental tha tthe defender would think to move to Madrid: “Nico has a similar profile to Pepe, who would leave at the end of the season. Real Madrid are following him since he played at Valencia, as Barcelona were doing. Who wouldn’t like to play at Real Madrid, the biggest team in the world. Perhaps I don’t want to talk that much…”, Sendoa said according to Fichajes.com.

Zinedine Zidane said recently that he wants Pepe to stay because he’s a symbol of the club. The Portuguese is again back with the group and he’s enjoying many minutes recently. However, his contract expires at the end of the current season and Chinese clubs want him. It might be Pepe’s last contract and the full back might be tempted by the great offers arriving from China.

Real Madrid second option is Jesús Vallejo. The former Zaragoza player is shining with Eintracht Frankfurt, so he could be ready to jump to Real Madrid first squad. However, Nico Kovac, his coach, wants him to stay and the Bundesliga club is already in talks with Los Blancos asking them to extend the deal with Jesús Vallejo.

Therefore, there could be an option for a fourth full back in Real Madrid squad in 2017/18. However, it could be unnecessary to sign a high profile defender as Nico Otamendi. Raphael Varane, Sergio Ramos and Nacho Fernández are very young defenders and they are showing their quality this season. The fourth defender would be a need but it could be better to give the opportunity to a young player like Vallejo or a symbol like Pepe rather to another star like Nico Otamendi, who could be upset if he doesn’t have the minutes he expects.

Real Madrid travel on Wednesday to Mestalla in a game for the 16th week of La Liga, postponed for the FIFA Club World Cup. The match was supposed to be played in December, when Valencia were struggling to stay out of the relegation zone with Cesare Prandelli. Some weeks later, the Italian manager resigned and Voro took over, obtaining good results.

Actually, Valencia were able to beat (2-0) Athletic Club on Sunday and the relegation is now far away. Los Chés are still in a bad position in the table, but they’re still a dangerous team for Real Madrid. Actually, the last two times Los Blancos travelled to Mestalla, they weren’t able to obtain the three points and the games had really bad consequences.

Real Madrid played in Mestalla the opening game of the year in the last two seasons. The 3rd of January of 2015, Los Blancos visit Valencia with Rafa Benítez on the bench. The manager was heavily criticized after the hard defeat (0-4) against Barcelona in El Clásico. The results weren’t better and Benítez had a match-ball against his former team, where he was able to win two La Liga trophies and one UEFA Cup.

Los Blancos couldn’t win the game despite taking the lead twice. Benzema scored the opener and Cristiano Ronaldo also wrote his name in the scoreboard but Dani Parejo and Paco Alcácer drew the game. Los Blancos played with 10 players because Mateo Kovacic was sent off. Florentino Pérez decided that Benítez’s adventure at Real Madrid was over and the manager was sacked after the game.

One year earlier, it was also the start of the end for Carlo Ancelotti. Real Madrid arrived to the game with an incredible run of victories. Los Blancos won the FIFA Club World Cup in Morocco and they were playing the best football seen in many years at Bernabéu. Los Blancos took the lead after a penalty scored by Cristiano Ronaldo. However, Valencia came back with the goals of Barragán and Otamendi. Real Madrid lost and they started to lose several games against Atlético de Madrid and they were kicked out of the Copa del Rey by the city rivals. Ancelotti was sacked at the end of the season.

Mestalla is always a tough stadium for the big teams in La Liga. FC Barcelona won at the very last minute in a very controversial stadium and Atlético de Madrid also got the three points (0-2) despite missing two penalties. Last time Real Madrid won at Mestalla was in 2013 (2-3) thanks to a late goal scored by Jesé. In the same year, in 2013 with José Mourinho on the bench, Los Blancos thrashed (0-5) Valencia with a great performance of Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese is used to show off against Valencia.

Gareth Bale

After a tough weeks following the defeats with Sevilla and Celta in Copa del Rey, Real Madrid are back in track with good feelings. We are in the most crucial part of the season and Los Blancos seemed that they’ve been through a rough time and now they are showing their best level again.

The good result in the first leg of the Champions League tie against Napoli came together with back to back victories in La Liga against Osasuna and Espanyol. Now Los Blancos face a key week, where they travel to Valencia and Villarreal. Los Blancos could finish the week 7 points ahead of Barcelona, because Blaugranas play on Sunday against Atlético de Madrid at Vicente Calderón.

For this important week, Zinedine Zidane has the full squad available for the first time in the season. Gareth Bale came back against Espanyol on Saturday with a great goal and the Welshman could start on Wednesday his first game this year. Besides, Sergio Ramos looks recovered after suffering small problems against Napoli. Danilo and Fabio Coentrao are also recovered and both could be in the list to travel to Valencia.

With the calendar full of fixtures, Zidane has all his players available to rotate the team and give minutes to all the players. He showed again on Saturday that all the players will be important until the end of the season, giving minutes to Isco, Nacho or Mateo Kovacic.

The big problem for Zizou now is leaving 6 players out of the list to visit Mestalla. Besides, with the BBC available, there will be less space for players like Lucas Vázquez, Isco or James Rodríguez, who have recently shown a good level covering Bale’s absence. However, as the manager has been showing all the season, if the footballers keep playing at a great level, they will have minutes to show their quality even if in the key games BBC, Modric or Toni Kroos are untouchable. These are again good news for all Real Madrid supporters.

1
Keylor Navas

Keylor Navas is not living his best moment since his arrival to Real Madrid. The Costa Rican keeper didn’t play last match against Espanyol in the regular season and it seems there are certain doubts with his last performances against Sevilla and Napoli. He has been in the usual line-up since Iker Casilla’s departure, but there has always been the potential arrival of David De Gea in the background.

In fact, in the summer of 2015 the Costa Rican almost signed with Manchester United because De Gea was going to be Los Blancos keeper. Finally Keylor Navas stayed at Madrid and he did his best season, being one of the most important players in the squad. In the current season, Keylor started injured and nowadays he is not showing the same level as two years ago. Maybe that’s why Zinedine Zidane decided to introduce Kiko Casilla in the starting 11 against Espanyol in the regular season.

Keylor Navas has had several errors in the current season, highlighting the goal received from Stefan Jovetic in the last minutes in La Liga’s match against Sevilla and the one he received this week from Lorenzo Insigne in the first leg of the Last 16 Round of Champions League. The Costa Rican keeper doesn’t transmit the same security as before and that is reflected in the goals Real Madrid have conceded in this season.

Los Blancos have not kept a clean sheet in all Champions League’s games played this season (six with Keylor Navas between the sticks). Real Madrid’s goals conceded average in this competition is 1.67 per game. With this statistics is very difficult to win the Champions League and that’s why Keylor Navas must improve in the next games. The Costa Rican player does not seem to be focused and this may be due to the numerous rumours about David De Gea or Thibaut Courtois signings at the end of the season.

Bernardo Silva

Manchester United and Real Madrid are very interested in the signing of a Portuguese player who plays at Monaco, Bernardo Silva. Los Blancos target for next summer transfer market is one of the French league sensations of the current season. The Portuguese attacker is being one of the best AS Monaco players this season, being one of the key players of the team.

Real Madrid will fight next summer for the signing of this player because he is a footballer with an incredible quality who can add even more quality to Zidane’s squad. He can play in the right wing but his versatility gives him the chance to play also as a playmaker between the midfielders and the attackers. José Mourinho wants him in Manchester United and he will do everything possible to sign him in the next summer transfer market.

The 22 year-old-player is being this season one of the most decisive players at Monaco because he has already played 36 official games, scoring nine goals and giving seven assists, making him one of the most Leonardo Jardim’s key players. This year he will receive many offers from important European teams and he must decide if he prefers to sign for Real Madrid or Manchester United or continue growing as player at Monaco, where is in the usual starting 11.

Bernardo Silva arrived to Monaco three years ago from Benfica. The French team signed him for an amount of €15.8M when he was 19 years old. In his first season at France he scored 9 goals, having a great debut as a professional in an important league. The second season he scored seven and in the current one, he has already scored 6 goals in the regular season and 3 in Champions League. Monaco are doing a great season and they are currently in the top of table showing a great level and being the top scorer team of all Europe with 76 goals.

When Lucas Vázquez starts from te beginning, he is the player who runs more kilometers per game, when Zidane introduce him in line-up. At Real Madrid, Kroos is the player who adds more kilometers in his legs. The German midfielder is in the usual starting 11 and he always runs a lot per game. Kroos accumulates in his legs more than 170 km in 17 games played so far. He is the player in the squad with more kilometers, but the true is that when Lucas Vázquez plays, the Galician player runs even more than Kroos.

The Spaniard player has started in seven games in La Liga and two in Champions League and in all of them he ran more than 11km per game. In addition, if we consider the minutes he played, Lucas is the player of the squad who moves more on the field, beating Kroos and Casemiro, two of the most outstanding players in this facet, because they play in the midfield, a very physical position.

Lucas Vázquez’s record this year was in the match against Borussia Dortmund in the group stage. He ran more than 12 kilometers, beating his personal record and the record of all the team. And in other Champions League game that he played fro the starting was against Sporting Libon, where he ran 12,16km.

In the regular season he also has the record of the team. He achieved it in the match against Espanyol (in the first leg) completing 12,54 km. He is a player that when Zidane gives him the chance to play from the beginning, he runs a lot and that’s why many Real Madrid supporters like to see him in the field instead other players. The game in which he run less meters was against Málaga, 11.37km. Even so, in that match none of his teammates ran more than the Spaniard wing.

Zinedine Zidane spoke at pass conference after the victory against Espanyol at in the regular season. Los Blancos played a very complete match with many changes in the line-up and against a team that their priority was to defend. The French manager spoke about today’s match, Gareth Bale return, Morata’s performance and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Zidane started the pass conference talking about today’s match at Santiago Bernabéu:” We played with many changes in the line-up. All the players did a very good job. We did a good game. With 1-0 we couldn’t cal down. We deserved the third one because there was a penalty to Cristiano Ronaldo that the referee didn’t whistle”, the French manager said.

Real Madrid have scored in 42 consecutive games and this is what Zidane thinks about “the record”: ” The team is working very good and they are great players, but we have not won anything yet. Now we have two tough games. We will try to win the match at Mestalla. Today we scored two goals because we were patience”, Zidane explained

Morata was included in the starting 11 today and he played a very complete math scoring the first goal of the game:” I am very happy with Morata’s goal. It’s difficult for the players when they do not have many minutes, but he showed that he is ready”, Zidane said about Morata’s performance.

Gareth Bale played today after 88 days being injured and he scored the second goal from a great counterattack: “I’m very glad with his return. He wanted to play again because he has been three months without playing. I told him to enjoy the match. Bale is a different player“, Zidane said about Bale’s return.

Cristiano couldn’t score today and he seemed quite anxious in some of his chances:” I don’t see him anxious, I see him very happy and I think he played a good match. He worked a lot today. I’m not worried, he will be a key player for us in the season most important important”, the French manager affirmed.

Real Madrid won 2-0 against Espanyol in a very good week for Zidane’s players after winning in the Last 16 round in Champions League against Napoli in another great comeback. The French manager did many changes in the line up introducing Kiko Casilla between the sticks instead Keylor, Pepe in the defense who didn’t play in the regular season since December, Nacho in the left back, Kovacic in the midfield and Morata instead Benzema. We can highlight Bale’s return after being 88 days out of the fields and Zinedine Zidane gave him almost 20 minutes.

Los Blancos started the match controlling the ball and trying to have the possession because Espanyol were playing very defensive and there was no space. In the first 20 minutes Real Madrid didn’t have any chance and the only player who was involved in the attack was Lucas Vázquez. Morata had the first clear opportunity from a good pass of Cristiano Ronaldo in the 30th minute but Duarte prevented the first goal for Los Blancos. Only five minutes later Morata opened the scoreboard with a wonderful header from a great cross of Isco. Real Madrid went to the dressing room with one goal lead after a very tactical first half where there were almost no chances.

The second half started similar as the first one, with Real Madrid attacking with the goal of scoring the second one and Espanyol defending in their box looking for a counterattack. Zinedine Zidane decided to introduce Casemiro, after his great performance against Napoli, in the 60th minute replacing Kovacic in the midfield. In the 70th minute Gareth Bale entered the pitch replacing Morata who played a very good game scoring the first goal of the match. The Welshman played in the left side and Cristiano was the “new”striker of the team. Nacho had to leave the field in the last 10 minutes because of muscular problems and Marcelo replaced him in the left back. In the first ball Gareth Bale received, the Welshman scored the second goal of the match in a very fast counterattack with another good assist of Isco.

Los Blancos could achieve another victory in the regular season in a very calm match for the team managed by Zidane, where they played a very complete game against a team that did not create danger. Now Real Madrid must think in their next match that will be at Mestella next Wednesday.

Real Madrid will face Espanyol at Santiago Bernabéu in the regular season after winning Napoli last Wednesday in Champions League with a great comeback of Los Blancos. Zinedine Zidane announced several changes in the line up after a very tough match and we can highlight that Gareth Bale is back with the group although he’s not expected to start, but the French manager affirmed that he will have some minutes in the game. These are very good news for the Zidane because now he has all the players available except Sergio Ramos who has physical problems.

However, Gareth Bale is back 88 days after the injury he had against Sporting Lisbon in Champions League.
These are very good news for Real Madrid because with Bale’s recovery Zinedine Zidane could return to the 4-3-3 instead 5-3-2 formation.

The Welshman goal is to be 100% fit for the match against Napoli in the 7th of March. Zidane wants to give him minutes in the next regular season games against Valencia (22nd of February), Villarreal 26th of February, Las Palmas (1st of March) and Eibar (4th of March).

Gareth Bale is a very important player for Real Madrid because he is one of the best players of the world. Before his injury, the Welshman was playing a really good season scoring seven goals in 16 matches (five in La Liga and two in Champions League). With his return, the BBC will play the important games of the season.

Zinedine Zidane has decided that he will do many changes in the line-up. Kiko Casilla will be between the sticks, while Sergio Ramos has physical problems that let him out of the list and Pepe could enter in the starting 11. Kovacic may substitute Modric in the midfield, while Morata will be the striker of the team and Lucas can return to the starting 11 after being on the bench against Napoli.
