Balaídos

Celta de Vigo v Real Madrid had to play tomorrow the match at Baláidos, but it might be postponed by security reasons related with the weather in the north of Spain. The cover of the stadium is very damaged and because of this reason the game might be suspended.

Just a few hours after announcing that the game was postponed the Deportivo de la Coruña v Betis match of La Liga by the damage caused at Riazor, Vigo’s mayor said that the match should be postponed because Celta stadium is also very damaged and the major thing is the supporters and players security: “I have already spoken with Celta’s President. This evening the storm was very bad, and it damaged the cover of the stadium. The firefighters cannot fix it yet and the field is not in conditions. The most important thing is people’s security and under these conditions the game cannot be played tomorrow”, Vigo’s Mayor affirmed about tomorrow’s match at Balaídos.

Despite the announcement given by the Vigo’s mayor, La Liga has not made the official suspension of the match yet. If the game is finally postponed, it will be the second in this weekend. We must remember that Real Madrid have already postponed a match that was against Valencia, because Los Blancos had to play the FIFA Club World Cup at Japan. The match against Valencia will be played next 22nd of February.

Celta v Real Madrid can’t be played until 17th of May if both clubs reach their European finals. If Celta de Vigo are knocked out of the Europe League by Shakhtar, the first option to play the match would be 14th or 15th of March. If both, Real Madrid and Celta, are knocked out, the game could be played on 11th or 12th of April and if they are knocked out in the quarter finals the match could be played on the 2nd or 3rd of May.

Zinedine Zidane spoke the day before Los Blancos will face Celta de Vigo at Balaídos. Real Madrid will play once again at the stadium where they were knocked out in the quarter finals of La Copa del Rey. The french manager spoke about their opponent, Pepe’s recovery, Morata and the injuries Real Madrid have in the squad.

Zidane started the press conference talking about the match they will have against Celta de Vigo at Balaídos:” It’s another difficult match. They are a very good team and they play a brilliant football. It’s an important match for us. They are going to do some changes in the line-up but that does not matter, they have a really complete squad”, Zidane said about Celta de Vigo.

 

Los Blancos have many injuries and some players are almost recovered:” We think next week we will have almost all the players available, except Gareth Bale. The other players are almost OK. Modric will be 100% next week while Pepe and James have trained with us and we’ll see who travel to Vigo”, Zidane affirmed about the injuries in the squad.

Pepe has lost many games because of an injury and there are rumors that say that he will leave Real Madrid at the end of the season:” Pepe is OK. He has been injured and now he is happy because he can start to play. He is not thinking in what he is going to do when the season ends. On June we will see what will happen. He has been here for 10 years and I want Pepe to stay”. Zidane said

Morata is having good performances in the last games and he wants to play more minutes because Benzema is not in his best moment:” He is playing really good in the last games and he wants to play more, as all the player. Many years ago, we were used to a fight between Real Madrid and Barcelona also out of the pitches. Florentino Pérez started the ‘Cold War’ when he signed Luis Figo in a deal made in 2002, thanks to this he won the elections for the president of Real Madrid.

Luis Enrique, Luis Milla, Miquel Soler, Javier Saviola, Michael Laudrup, Albert Celades, Ronaldo Nazario… These are some examples of the players who, recently, changed Real Madrid for Barcelona or viceversa. Perhaps, we should include in this list Isco Alarcón.

As we published, Isco Alarcón has still to renew his contract with Real Madrid. The Málaga born player deal ends in 2018 but there are no talks going on yet between the player and the club. Actually, according to some media, Isco rejected an offer from Real Madrid recently. The playmaker wants to wait until the end of the season to know his circumstances and, then, take a decision. He’s not very happy at the moment with the minutes he’s having with Zinedine Zidane, but he’ll wait to see if his role changes until the end of the present season.

FC Barcelona have spotted an opportunity here. Andrés Iniesta is currently 32 years old but he’s having injury problems the whole season. The great Spanish midfielder has muscular problems and, obviously, his performances are getting poorer. For this reason, the Blaugranas need to find a replacement and Isco could be the perfect one.

Robert Fernández, Barcelona scouter, knows the opportunity and he’s already working on it. Isco and Marquinhos, the PSG defender, and the two priorities for FC Barcelona. Isco could be tempted to play with Barcelona, especially now that there are less competitors in the Blaugrana midfield.

Luis Enrique is having some problems to find the right players in this position. Busquets is a key player but he’s currently injured and Mascherano had to change his role to play again as an stopper. Iniesta is constantly injured, whereas Rakitic is not showing the same level and has lost his place in the line-up. For this reason, André Gomes, Denis Suárez and Arda Turan are playing much more recently, but their performances haven’t convinced neither the coach nor the fans.

Isco could be the solution for FC Barcelona but a problem for Real Madrid. Los Blancos don’t want to let Isco go to the main competitor.

Celta de Vigo played on Thursday evening the first leg of the semifinals of the Copa del Rey against Alavés. The Galician team didn’t get a good result because the game finished with a goalless draw. Therefore, Celta have to travel in Wednesday to Vitoria to score at least one goal and qualify to the great final of Copa del Rey, presumably against FC Barcelona.

For this reason, Eduardo Berizzo, Celta de Vigo coach, has already announced that he’ll make some changes in the line up for the game against Real Madrid: “We’ll value the tiredness of the team, but for us the game on Wednesday has priority, so we can imagine the game on Sunday with changes”, Berizzo said in the press conference after the game against Alavés.

Celta are trying to qualify for the third time in the history to a Copa del Rey final, a tournament that they have still to win. For this reason, Berizzo has been prioritizing Copa del Rey ahead of La Liga, where they are currently in the 8th position, 4 points behind the European positions. For instance, when Celta played against Real Madrid in Copa del Rey, Berizzo put against Real Sociedad and Leganés a team full of players who are usually on the bench.

Iago Aspas hasn’t played in the last two games in La Liga and he’s Celta’s star. He’s expected to be on the bench, and some other players like Pione Sisto or Giusseppe Rossi should start in the attacking line. Berizzo usually makes a lot of changes in the defence, as Sergi Gómez, Fontàs or Planas have had some opportunities recently due to the tiredness of the usual defenders, Cabral -now injured- and Roncaglia.

For this reason, Real Madrid should expect a lower quality team in La Liga. It’s a good opportunity for Los Blancos to get the three points and claim ‘vendetta’ after the Copa del Rey KO.

Sporting Portugal have tied Gelson Martins to a new contract expiring in 2022. The club initiated the talks long time ago and the parties said it was a tough deal but they finally reached an agreement. The new release clause is €80M.

So now Real Madrid now the price of the player. Los Blancos have been showing some interest in Gelson Martins since Sporting Lisbon played at Santiago Beranbéu early in the season. The winger played a great match, creating a lot of chances in his wing and being a nightmare for Marcelo and Dani Carvajal.

The player rejected a first offer of 450.000€ per year, according to A Bola, even if before the new deal he was getting 120.000€ per year. Now his salary will be much higher, but it could be easily improved by a great European club like Real Madrid.

Even before the game in the Champions League, the scouters of Real Madrid knew this player. They went several years ago to Lisbon to ask for the footballer born in Cabo Verde. But the Portuguese team shut the door, as they already knew they had an especial player in their club.

Several years later, Gelson Martins is already a rising star. He’s made his debut with the Portuguese national team and this season he has scored 4 goals in 19 games in Liga Sagres. However, he couldn’t help his team to qualify for the next round of the Champions League and Sporting Lisbon were even knocked out of the Europa League after the defeat against Legia Warsaw in Poland.

However, the idea of seeing Gelson Martins at Santiago Bernabéu is not over yet. We’ve seen many times footballers renewing their contracts in the Portuguese League and after the clubs decided to sell the players to get more money. Nevertheless, now the price is very high. €80M for a very young player, who is currently only 21.

Real Madrid could not make a single signing during the January transfer window because of the transfer ban imposed on them by FIFA. Whether this has an effect on their chances of winning La Liga or the Champions League this season remains to be seen, but Madrid should be aiming to add to the squad in the summer in order to maintain their competitive edge.

All the odds on Oddschecker have Madrid as favourites to win the Spanish league and Zinedine Zidane’s side could well lift the title for the first time since 2012, but that should not stop them from looking ahead to the 2017-18 campaign. True, the likes of Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale are going strong and are among the best players in the world, but it is imperative that Los Blancos refresh their squad.

Madrid are the world’s third most valuable club, and money is not an issue. What is important for the Spanish giants is that they sign the right players in the right positions and not just recruit a big-name footballer as a publicity stunt. Below we look at four players the 11-time European champions should aim to sign in the summer.
 

Marco Reus (Borussia Dortmund)

Marco Reus is one of the best and most creative footballers in the world, and it is hard to believe that he is still at Borussia Dortmund. Dortmund are a massive club in their own right, but a footballer of Reus’s talent and quality should be playing for a bigger team… like Madrid. The 27-year-old can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a forward, and he would certainly enhance the quality of Zidane’s team. The Germany international is technically very gifted and he is going to hit his peak in the next couple of years. The former Borussia Monchengladbach star is going to cost a lot of money, but he would be worth it.


David Alaba (Bayern Munich)

 
David Alaba is one of the most versatile footballers in the world. The 24-year-old, who has made over 150 appearances in the Bundesliga for Bayern Munich, can play as a central midfielder, central defender, right-winger, left-winger or left-back. Alaba, who is easily among the top three left-backs in the world, has even operated as a forward. True, Madrid have a world-class left-back in Marcelo, but signing Alaba would add extra quality to their defence and would also hand head coach Zidane a player who could play almost anywhere on the pitch. Alaba is settled at Bayern, who are one of the biggest clubs in the world and would not want to part company with him, but Madrid should still make a move and test the waters.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is one of the best attacking players in the world and has been playing well for a while. The Gabon international is a versatile footballer who can operate as a forward or as a winger and is very prolific. During the 2015-16 season, the 27-year-old scored 25 goals in 31 appearances in the Bundesliga, while in 2014-15, he found the net 16 times in the league. Dortmund would drive a hard bargain, but Aubameyang has previously been quoted as saying that he wants to play for Madrid, and this could go in favour of Los Blancos.

Christian Eriksen (Tottenham Hotspur)

Christian Eriksen has issues with consistency, as has been apparent this season, but there can be no denial that he is one of the best and most creative footballers in Europe. The Tottenham Hotspur attacking midfielder is only 24 years of age, and he could prove to be a good long-term investment for Madrid. Los Blancos have done business with Tottenham before (remember Gareth Bale and Luka Modric?) and perhaps the two clubs could thrash out a deal in the summer. Spurs will want top dollar for Eriksen, but money is not an issue for Madrid.

Signing Reus, Alaba, Aubameyang and Eriksen in the same window would probably not be feasible for Madrid, but if they could sign at least one of the aforementioned stars, then it would be business well done. They are all big-name players, but they also have genuine quality and would add to the strength and depth of the team.

Álvaro Morata had 24 minutes in the game against Real Sociedad last weekend. The Spanish striker scored a great goal in a superb counter-attack to seal the victory against the Basque team. There is a big debate in the Spanish capital about whether Benzema or Morata should play in the attacking line.

Karim Benzema has all the confidence from Zinedine Zidane. The manager always defends him when he speaks in public. The French striker has appeared in 12 occasions in the line-up in La Liga, whereas Morata has only played 6 times from the beginning. The numbers don’t lie and the French striker has played 968 minutes in La Liga and the Spaniard 656 minutes. Although Benzema has had much more minutes, Morata has scored one goal more so far, finding the net 6 times in the Spanish competition.

For this reason, many people think that Morata deserves more opportunities. When he came out of the bench on Sunday, he showed great skills, movements and speed. Actually, in the goal scored, Morata touched the ball in his own field and then run very fast to finish the counter attack. The Spaniard has been recently linked to Chelsea and Juventus and it’s very likely that he could change team at the end of the current season if he doesn’t enjoy more minutes with Real Madrid.

Real Madrid fans booed Benzema at Santiago Bernabéu when his name was announced through the speakers. The supporters don’t understand his lack of commitment in the Copa del Rey tie against Celta de Vigo and every time Benzema touched the ball against Real Sociedad he could listen to some whistles at the stadium.

Having a look at the numbers, Álvaro Morata deserves an opportunity to show his quality from the beginning. However, Zidane said several times that the BBC is untouchable. This includes Karim Benzema, but the French striker has to wake up if he wants to have the support from his own fans.

Florentino Pérez has been working these months to renew the contracts of the most important players in the squad. We could see agreements with Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Luka Modric, Toni Kroos or Daniel Carvajal. However, there are two players who haven’t extended their contract yet. These are Isco and Pepe.

The Portuguese is set to leave to China at the end of the current season. Pepe’s deal with Real Madrid expires in June and the full back will have a great opportunity to sign a millionaire deal with a Chinese club.

Isco’s situation is completely different. His contract ends in 2018, so he still has one year and a half of contract. Therefore, Real Madrid have to think whether renew his contract this summer or sell him before he could leave the club for free at the end of the next season. Isco is also in a tough position. He’s not enjoying a lot minutes with Real Madrid and he has to think in whether fight for a place with Los Blancos or leave seeking more opportunities.

Isco was about to leave Real Madrid last summer. However, Zidane finally convinced the Spaniard to stay because he was going to be a key player. It wasn’t true until November, when he started playing at a great level. Isco especially shone against Atlético de Madrid and Barcelona, convincing everyone that he should stay at the club. But he’s not very consistent and now he’s again on the bench in most of the games.

Isco has been always flattered by Zidane’s words, but he hasn’t enjoyed so many minutes this season. In La Liga he appeared in 15 games, scoring 4 goals and in the Champions League Isco only played some minutes again Borussia Dortmund, in the last clash of the group stage. Therefore, Isco is not feeling as a key player in the club, and there are several teams in Europe that have already asked about his situation in Spain.

There are only two options in summer. Sell him or renew his contract. What should Real Madrid do with Isco?

Gaku Shibasaki has signed on loan with CD Tenerife, a club currently playing in La Liga 123, the Spanish second division. Who is Gaku Shibasaki? Most Real Madrid fans will remember him as the player who scored two goals in the final of the last FIFA Club World Cup in Japan. This forward could ‘steal’ a title for Los Blancos, but Cristiano Ronaldo avoided a huge disappointment.

Gaku Shibasaki is 24 years-old and he’s been playing at Kashima Antlers for six seasons. He also made his debut with the Japanese national team and he’s one of the best players in the country. He has played 13 games with Japan, scoring 3 goals. Shibasaki’s nickname, ‘The Japanese Messi’, might be too much for the young player, but he has certainly some skills. Now the Spanish club Tenerife has got a loan deal for the striker, so we can see him playing in La Liga 123.

Shibasaki made a huge impact in the FIFA Club World Cup final. Most people thought that Los Blancos were going to thrash Kashima Antlers. And it looked that way when Karim Benzema scored the opener in the 9th minute. However, Kashima fought back and Shibasaki scored a brace. The miracle for the Japanese team was possible, but Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick to bring another trophy to Madrid.

Shibasaki stunning performance at the FIFA Clubs World Cup called the attention of many clubs. Tenerife were quick enough to get a deal with Kashima Antlers and he will be a good signing for a push in the last months of the competition. Tenerife are currently in the sixth position of the table in La Liga 123 and they are fighting to get promoted to La Liga Santander. Now they are in play-off position, so the dream is still possible, more enough if they improve their squad with top players like Shibasaki.
