The lastest Real Madrid transfer gossip include Los Blancos planning a 30-million-euro bid for Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci and Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi becoming a target for Rafa Benitez.

Bonucci was first linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu last week, when it was revealed that Benitez would meet the centre-back’s agent. Italian newspaper Tuttosport has claimed Los Merengues are serious about Bonucci and will offer Juventus 30-million-euros.

The arrival of the 28-year-old would force Real to sell home-grown defender Nacho Fernandez, as Sergio Ramos, Pepe and Raphael Varane are Florentino Perez’s favourites.

Sport Mediaset has also reported from Italy that Los Blancos are interested in Inter Milan man Mauro Icardi. The Argentinian has had a terrific season at the Serie A and has impressed Benitez, who sees him as the perfect replacement for Chicharito Hernandez.

However, Inter are not willing to let their top scorer go easily, and his price could be an obstacle for his arrival.

Meanwhile, Spanish sports newspaper Marca has reported that Los Merengues will be beaten in the race to sign Paul Pogba, as Paris Saint-Germain are planning a 90-million-euro offer. The Frenchman is a key target for Florentino Perez, but he would not pay such a high amount for a midfielder.

Former Real Madrid player and coach Alberto Toril has said the appointment of Rafa Benitez is a positive step for the club as he recalled his former coach’s studious methods.

Toril played for Benitez in the new manager’s first coaching job at Real Madrid Castill before joining him at Extremadura. He then went on to follow in Benitez’ footsteps and manage Real’s second string outfit himself.

In a wide ranging interview with AS, Toril recalled how studious Benitez was two decades ago and how his methods were ahead of the game at the time.

He stated: “At that point he was very studious – he still is. He was ahead of his time. His working methods were nothing like we had seen at youth level. He would gather an incredible amount of information on our opponents, and that was quite a surprise for us. We learned how to play within a zonal system; he would teach us about what movements we needed to make and how to make sure our territory was well covered when the team went on the attack.”

He went on to add: “He tried to make it as simple as possible for us. He already had all his statistics stored on his computer – that was something completely new; he would teach us about the movements we needed to make by showing us videos. He was way ahead of his time.

“The trend at the time was to try to extract every last drop of quality from every player: our games were very open and he tried to mould his teams, he would work exhaustively on his teams and tell them where they needed to be positioned out on the pitch. For Rafa, the team was a solitary object and should move as one. His teams had a definite style.”

Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane is set to take over from Pepe as a first choice centre back at the club, according to daily Spanish sports paper Marca.

The Frenchman, who has been at the club for four years, has had to play an understudy role throughout much of his Santiago Bernabeu career, featuring only when Sergio Ramos or Pepe were injured, suspended or in need of a rest.

The 22-year-old had grown tired of his lack of progression at the club and was believed to be considering his options, with Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho reportedly ready to sign him for the second time in his career.

But Marca says new Los Blancos boss Rafa Benitez believes the time is right for Varane to be a regular starter for the 10-time Champions League winners. The former Lens star played regularly for Carlo Ancelotti last season and actually featured more than Pepe – 3047 minutes compared to 2765. Blessed with blistering pace and excellent reading of the game, Varane looks set to cement his place in the side next season.

Injury has halted his progression at Real, but since he joined in 2011, Varane has played 117 games for Los Merengues scoring six goals along the way.

Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas has been ruled out of this summer’s Gold Cup, Costa Rica boss Paolo Wanchope has confirmed.

Last summer’s World Cup quarter finalists are one of the favourites for the tournament, which takes place between 7 and 26 July in the US and Canada.

But they will now need to make do without the services of Navas, who has picked up a tendinitis problem in his Achilles’ heel. The shot stopper has been assessed by doctors in recent days and will now return to Real where he may need to undergo surgery.

Speaking ahead of the tournament, Wanchope told reporters: “Keylor won’t be with us for the tournament. I think he has two options, undergo a course of treatment, or surgery. It’s a shame. Keylor will now need to travel back to Spain so that he can be examined by Real Madrid’s medical team; they will decide what treatment he needs.”

Navas’ future at Los Blancos is in some doubt with stories suggested he is keen to move on after just one year in search of regular first team football. He joined the club from Levante last summer but has had to play second fiddle to Iker Casillas. He opportunities at the Santiago Bernabeu would be limited if the club, as expected, sign David de Gea. Premier League side Liverpool are thought to be monitoring Navas’ situation.

Argentinian midfielder Lucas Biglia is one of the options Real Madrid are studying for reinforcing their squad this summer.

Italian website Tuttomercatoweb has claimed four European giants are interested in signing the Lazio footballer: Real, Manchester United, Bayern Munich and AS Monaco.

According to this website, Biglia has reached an agreement with Lazio that would allow him to leave the Italian capita this summer should they receive an offer from one of Europe’s big clubs, including Los Blancos.

The 29-year-old has long been linked with a Real Madrid move, and rumours are more intense now that Rafa Benitez has become the Los Merengues manager. The former Napoli boss knows Biglia well from his two years in Italy and could be open to bringing him should the other options fail.

Los Blancos are also pursuing the signings of Paul Pogba and Marco Verratti, but both will be difficult to bring. Geoffrey Kondogbia is also in the list.

Florentino Perez is determined to sign a midfielder with better physical power than Toni Kroos and Luka Modric, but it doesn’t seem like Biglia has many options. The Argentinian is in Chile at the moment, playing the Copa America.

Former Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti was going to face the sack even if he had won the Champions League again this season, according to Juventus sporting director Luciano Moggi.

Ancelotti was relieved of his duties as soon as the season was over after Los Blancos failed to retain their European crown or lift the league title – both trophies going to Barcelona instead.

The Italian was replaced by Rafa Benitez, who has spent the last two years in Italy, coaching Napoli.

Speaking to Radio CRC, Moggi revealed he had spoken to Florentino Perez who had told him Ancelotti would be replaced at the end of the campaign no matter whether Real were successful or not.

“Florentino told me that he wanted to get rid of Ancelotti even if he secured a Champions League win for Madrid. Benitez was lined up to be the replacement and Florentino knew this for quite some time, irrespective of what the club would have you believe,” he commented.

He went on to add that he doesn’t think Benitez is the right man to lead Los Blancos, citing his difficulties to get big egos and star players to back his methods or improve them as players.

“Benitez has not convinced me, he has been unable to harness certain players’ potential and the situation with Hamsik is a case in point. For other reasons too, but let’s not forget that Napoli finished the Serie A season in fifth position.”

A recent poll carried out by Spanish sports daily AS suggests half of Real Madrid fans believe the club should sell Cristiano Ronaldo for between 100 million and 150 million euros.

Of the 30,000 questioned, 49.6% said the Portuguese front man should leave the Santiago Bernabeu if Los Blancos receive a huge offer. When asked what to do if the figure was between 50 million and 100 million euros, almost a third (32.5%) said the 10-time Champions League winners should sell. Just over 10% would sell Ronaldo if the offer was 50 million euros or less, the poll showed.

The 30-year-old, who netted 61 goals in all competitions last season, has a deal with the La Liga giants until 2018 and has said on many occasions he would like to see out his career at the club.

But talk of him making a return to Manchester United hasn’t quietened down, nor too rumours that he would like to end his playing days in the US, following in the footsteps of David Beckham and Raul.

Ronaldo endured some fractious moments with the Madrid fanbase last season, and was heavily criticised after his celebrated his 30th birthday just hours after the team had lost 4-0 to Atletico de Madrid.

Despite the poll by AS, there is no suggestion Ronaldo will leave anytime soon, even though Florentino Perez see Gareth Bale as his long-term successor as the star man at the club.

Real Madrid have been dealt a blow in their chase for Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero after the Argentine said he wants to stay at the Etihad Stadium.

The 27-year-old, who won the Golden Boot in the Premier League last season, has been linked with a move back to the Spanish capital, four years after he left Atletico de Madrid. Despite an injury hit campaign, Aguero still managed to bag 32 goals in 42 games for the Citizens last season.

Such fine form had prompted talk that Florentino Perez has made Aguero his number one summer target and is prepared to offer 80 million euros to take him to the Santiago Bernabeu.

But in quotes published by British tabloid The Daily Star, Aguero poured cold water over any transfer talk and said he is happy in England.

“I’m enjoying these four years that I’ve had at City and there are still many more years to come. I’m very happy,” he said.

The news could be a relief for Karim Benzema, who has been linked with a move away from La Liga should Real sign Aguero. FA Cup winners Arsenal are known to be keen on the player, as are Manchester United, but the Frenchman is happy at the club.

Real Madrid have shown an interest in signing Valencia center-back Nicolas Otamendi, Valencian sports newspaper SuperDeporte has revealed.

The Argentina international has had a terrific season in La Liga, helping his side qualify for the Champions League and being picked as one of the two best center-backs of the tournament together with Gerard Pique.

Thus, many European clubs have contacted his agent in the last few weeks, including Manchester United and Real Madrid.

The player’s agent Eugenio Lopez is reportedly in talks with Los Blancos directors, hoping to reach a satisfying agreement. Otamendi has admitted he wants to move to a bigger club this summer and there is no one bigger than Real.

Valencia’s owner Peter Lim is open to letting Otamendi go if they receive a good offer. The Ches paid 12 million euros for the 27-year-old and selling him for three times that amount would be a great deal.

Rafa Benitez might want to reinforce the center of the defence should Nacho Fernandez leave this summer, as he would be left with only three center-backs –Sergio Ramos, Pepe and Raphael Varane. However, it seems highly unlikely that Florentino Perez will be willing to spend a high amount of money in a reserve defender.

Manchester United have offered Valencia 35 million euros, and there is little chance Perez will match that bid.

Portugal winger Nani has denied suggestions they are a one man team and says they are able to win games even when star man Cristiano Ronaldo is missing.

Ronaldo scored a hat trick for his country at the weekend against Armenia – his 9th of the season for club and country – as Portugal picked up another three points in their European Championship qualifier.

But national team boss Fernando Santos allowed the Los Blancos front man to sit out the Italy game this week, meaning he was free to go on holiday and recuperate after a long season with Real Madrid in which is scored 61 goals for the 10-time Champions League winners.

Portugal have sometimes struggled in the past without Ronaldo, but speaking to Goal, Manchester United man Nani said the team is packed full of brilliant players.

“Cristiano Ronaldo is a very important player for us and he showed that in the last match. But with or without him, we have a strong team and need to play our game and work hard to achieve good results,” he commented.

Nani spent last season on loan at Sporting Lisbon and is being linked with a move to Benfica this summer after being told he can leave the Red Devils by boss Louis van Gaal.
