Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane says PSG will be much stronger contenders to win the Champions League this season after signing Angel di Maria.
The Argentinean left the Santiago Bernabeu for Manchester United last summer but his time at Old Trafford was an unhappy one and he switch to PSG during the summer for a fee of 63 million euros.
The French champions have been drawn in the same group as Los Blancos, with the teams set to meet in Paris on October 21 before the return game in Madrid on November 3.
Speaking to sports paper L’Equipe ahead of the game between France and Portugal on Friday, Varane said PSG have got a real gem in di Maria.
“Di Maria is a really great player.He’s experienced and he has a huge amount of quality. He has the ability to penetrate the opposing defence, to play the final pass and to score. So he’s a real asset in a team,” he commented.
Di Maria, 27, played in the Spanish capital for four seasons making 191 appearances for the 10-time Champions League winners and scoring 36 goals. He played a key part in the side that lifted the Copa del Rey and La Decima in Lisbon in 2014 before being sold against the fans’ wishes that summer.
