Renowned Spanish sports journalist Josep Pedrerol has claimed Xabi Alonso first option if  he doesn’t renew his contract with Real Madrid this season would be moving to the United States to play in the Major League Soccer.

The director of late night sports show Punto Pelota stated “Alonso has not decided about his future yet, although there have been meetings between his manager Inaki Ibanez and the club.”

“If Alonso finds himself perfectly fit in two months, they will start seriously negotiating a contract renewal. If he has to choose a top European team, it will be Real Madrid, otherwise he plans on starting an adventure in the USA,” he added.

Pedrerol claimed Real Madrid would offer Alonso “a one-year renewal, or even two depending on his performances and how the midfielder feels about his groin injury.”

“The club wants Alonso to stay, but they would understand an possible exit if a team like Monaco came and offered him a lot of money,” the journalist concluded.

The Basque midfielder has been linked with a possible exit to a number of European sides, including Liverpool, Chelsea, Fiorentina, Juventus and Milan. However, this is the first time he’s been linked with a MLS switch.
