David Mateos: Sergio Ramos and Iker Casillas treated unfairly

Former Real Madrid defender David Mateos has said he is amazed by the treatment of Iker Casillas and Sergio Ramos.

Club captain Casillas is on the verge of leaving the club for Porto, ending a 25-year career with Los Blancos, as Real make preparations to sign David de Gea from Manchester United. The 34-year-old has been subject of some fierce criticism from Real fans over the past couple of seasons following his high profile fall out with ex boss Jose Mourinho.

Ramos meanwhile has been linked with a move to Manchester United and Bayern Munich after he was angered by the club’s refusal to meet his salary expectations over a new deal that would put him in the highest pay bracket along with Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale.

In an interview with Goal.com, 28-year-old Mateos said the pair didn’t deserve the treatment they had received.

“The Casillas situation surely has not been what he wanted – it’s the same for the club. It was expected this year could be his last. I don’t know how the atmosphere is inside the club, or with the president, but from the outside it’s being perceived that it is still quite unfair to Casillas, because they are forgetting everything he gave them,” he commented.

And he added: “It’s an unfair treatment. He gave everything for Real Madrid and Spain. I do not think he is going to leave the club badly, but as a player of his standing should do.

“From my point of view, they should be treated better. Ramos is the focus of all the news right now, as is Casillas. For me, as a Real Madrid fan, the Ramos exit means a lot. One of the things I like about Real Madrid was Sergio Ramos, because I admire him, both when I was training close to him and now from outside. As a Madrid fan, if I don’t see a Real Madrid with Ramos, I’ll miss something. In the football world people forget everything very quickly.”

  1. David you are a footballer when is the right time for a footballer to quite?(1)When fans cannot accommodate a player then comes criticism.(2) The age, real madrid or would I say Spanish la liga is not like italian league where people at the age of 34 up to 40years still play first team.I don’t think we would order bayern to sign oliver cahn back because of what he gave to them.David, Ike casillas as your friend can’t your advice him to quite gently because club gave him back all that he gave to them through salary. Also can quite to help younger ones.In the sergio Ramos situation I agreed with u David, he must stay 9 to 10 million is not much for him.
