Fabio Coentrao is keen on making a move to Tottenham Hotspur, according to British newspaper Daily Star.

The Portuguese left-back has found it hard to settle in Madrid since signing from Benfica in the summer of 2011. Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea had shown an interest in bringing him to London, but reports say Coentrao is keen on signing for city rivals Tottenham.

Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas is a big fan of the 25-year-old and has asked chairman Daniel Levy to pursue Coentrao’s arrival.

Gareth Bale is expected to leave Tottenham for Madrid in a world-record transfer, but Levy wants to conduct any possible deal for Coentrao separately from negotiations for the Welsh international.

Real Madrid are expecting to sell Coentrao for no less than 25 million euros. Granada’s Guilherme Siqueira, Juventus’ Giorgio Chiellini and Sevilla’s Alberto Moreno have been linked with a move to Real as possible replacements for the Portuguese.
