Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale has said it’s his ambition to play in the Champions League final at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff after the ground was announced as the host of the showpiece event in 2017.
The 25-year-old told the Football Association of Wales that it was a proud moment for the country to be chosen. The final will be played on June 3, 2017.
The forward, who scored in the 2014 Champions League final as Real ended their 12-year wait to win La Decima, said: “I know how passionate the Welsh football fans are so it’s great the Uefa Champions League final is coming to my home city of Cardiff.”
He added: “These are exciting times for Welsh football. It feels like the whole country is behind us as we attempt to reach next year’s Uefa Euro 2016 finals in France. I loved playing in the Uefa Super Cup last year and it would be fantastic to be involved in front of a packed crowd at such an iconic stadium in 2017.”
