Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan is on Real Madrid’s list of potential signings as they see him as the long-term replacement for Xabi Alonso, according to reports in the Spanish press.

Marca said the Turkish-born anchor man, who played a pivotal role in helping Dortmund reach the final of the Champions League, will be targeted by Los Blancos and will arrive next summer – once Alonso’s contract runs out.

Dortmund are unwilling to do business this summer, having already lost Mario Goetze to Bayern Munich. Striker Robert Lewandowsky also look set to leave the club this summer.

But Marca said Madrid’s good relationship with Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp could see them arrange a deal whereby Gundogan would agree a deal for the summer of 2014.

The 22-year-old midfielder, who is thought to be of interest to north London side Arsenal, is valued at around 25 million euros.
