Former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has said Cristiano Ronaldo has surpassed all expectations anyone had when they signed him.

The 29-year-old arrived in the Spanish capital in 2009 for a world record fee of 94 million euros from Manchester United. In his time at the club, the striker has set all sorts of goalscoring records, and has netted more than 50 a season for the past four years.

He has also played a key role in Los Blancos lifting the Champions League, La Liga, Copa del Rey, Spanish Supercopa and the European Super Cup over the past five years.

Speaking to talkSport, Calderon said: “I can’t think of any other player in my life like Ronaldo. He’s one of those players that has loads of talent, no doubt about it I feel sorry for the defenders who face him, they must think he’s going to eat them! He’s brilliant, he’s going beyond even the biggest expectations.”

The former president then went on to speak about the Clasico fixture taking place this evening, and predicted Los Blancos would edge it and close the game in La Liga.

“Real Madrid are four points behind but there is a lot of time ahead of us in the season. It’s much better for us to win, then we’d be just one point behind Barca, but there are still another 29 games to go.

Madrid are quite capable of beating Barca. It’s true that Barca have yet to concede in La Liga but it’s going to be a very interesting match,” he commented.
