Sporting Portugal’s midfielder William Carvalho could be set to make a move from Lisbon to Madrid this summer. Real Madrid have shown an interest in signing the Portuguese international, and the youngster has admitted he’s open to a transfer.

Los Blancos have been reportedly eyeing Carvalho since April. The 22-year-old has been the revelation of the Portuguese league, and he has caught the attention of many big European clubs, including Manchester United, Arsenal and Malaga.

The fact that Jorge Mendes is his agent has reinforced the options of Carvalho arriving to Madrid, since he has strong links with Los Blancos -he’s also the agent of Cristiano Ronaldo, Pepe, Fabio Coentrao, Angel di Maria and Marcelo.

Furthermore, Carvalho has stated in an interview with MaisFutebol that he doesn’t know whether he “will stay at Sporting or leave.”

The main obstacle for his exit is the 45-million-euros buy-out clause in his contract. Los Merengues are not willing to pay so much money for a player who has only had one good season.

Carvalho has made 29 appearances this season, scoring four goals and earning a spot in Portugal’s squad for Brazil’s World Cup. After the Portuguese had been knocked out, Carvalho has returned home. “For now I will return to Portugal, and we’ll see what happens,” he has stated.

  1. I’d be very happy if we bought Carvalho. He’s not worth 45 million but if we could somehow get a price lower than that I think he would be worth the investment. He is a great defensive midfielder that, from what I saw for Portugal, has vision and the ability to make a great pass. I believe with the right training he could be like the next yaya toure type player, and we need that since Xabi Alonso’s age is really starting to show on the defensive half of the field.
