Atletico defender Juanfran says he is very thankful to his time at Real Madrid, but he will be wanting to win against Los Blancos in the Champions League final in Lisbon this Saturday.

The 29-year-old is a product of Real’s youth system but departed for Osasuna in 2006 after making only six appearances for the Real senior side.

Juanfran broke through at the Bernabeu as a right winger, but despite his Real past, the right back said “All I want and all I think about, above all, is victory for Atletico.

“Of course, matches against Real Madrid are different, the past is behind me.

Juanfran added “I’m very grateful to (Real) Madrid for the years I spent there, how they treated me and trained me.

“But now I’m an Atletico Madrid player and I am aware I’ve been wearing the best colours.

Atletico have already surprised pundits by winning their first La Liga title since 1996, but talking about European success, he says “They are proud of what I have done and what I am doing, but, of course, it would be incredible, for me and my family.

“Being a European champion and being the best team in Europe is as good as it gets.”
