Betting companies have suspended bets on Real Madrid forward Gonzalo Higuain moving to Arsenal – suggesting a deal may be near completion.

SkyBet announced on its Twitter feed that following a number of bets being made on the Argentinean striker moving to the Emirates Stadium it will not be taking any more bets on that scenario occurring.

The 25-year-old is thought to have agreed a 140,000 euro a week deal with the Gunners. A fee of around 25 million euros is thought to have been agreed, but the transfer won’t be officially announced until Los Blancos have appointed a new manager to rubber-stamp the deal.

Italian champions Juventus were thought to be interested in Higuain but pulled out of the race, leaving Arsenal as the only suitors. The north London side are in need of some more firepower as they look to reestablish themselves in the Premier League elite.

Higuain scored 16 goals in 28 La Liga appearances last season, and he has netted 17 times for his country to date.
