Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has said his biggest regret to date was not signing Italian forward Franceso Totti.

Perez, elected unopposed to a new four-year term, gave a wide-ranging interview to Spanish daily Marca in which he outlined his plans for Los Blancos.

Those included handing Cristiano Ronaldo a new contract and building the team around the Portuguese.

When asked what his biggest regret was, he admitted missing out on securing Totti’s signature was a big blow.

“My greatest regret? That I wasn’t able to bring champions like Patrick Vieira, Francesco Totti and Ronaldinho to Real Madrid.”

The Italian striker recently admitted he was in advanced talks to sign for Real Madrid at one stage but decided to stay with Roma.

“If I had chosen Real Madrid, I’d have won three Champions Leagues and two Ballon d’Ors on top of who knows what else.

“I would’ve had more opportunities, that is beyond doubt, but I am happy with my choices. The only regret is that we could’ve won two or three more Scudetti with Roma.”
