Real Madrid and Germany midfielder Mesut Ozil has said he is looking forward to the new campaign after seeing the way Carlo Ancelotti has shaken things up at the club.

Speaking at an event to unveil Madrid’s new away kit, Ozil said fans can expect a more attacking approach in the coming season compared to the tactic employed by former boss Jose Mourinho.

The playmaker, who was mainly used on the left or right hand side of the midfield three under the Portuguese, revealed he is keen to play in a more central role under the new regime.

He stated: “The right wing is not my favourite position, I prefer to play in the hole. However, my relationship with the coach is very good. We’re training well and are very happy. Ancelotti knows how he wants to play, and his ideas are clear. He also has the right players for this system.”

French forward Karim Benzema also spoke at the event and said he was confident young forwards Jese Rodriguez and Alvaro Morata would step up to the challenge of replacing Gonzalo Higuain.

The 25-year-old stated: “Morata and Jese are ready to have a great season.”

He also said the appointment of Zinedine Zidane as assistant coach was an inspired choice.

“ Zidane gets on with everyone and gives advice, which is important here because he won everything. He’s a great example,” he added.
