Former Real Madrid forward Michael Owen says current Los Blancos star Gareth Bale is a world class player who will keep improving.

Bale, 91 million euro signing from Tottenham Hotspur in 2013, enjoyed a spectacular opening season at the Santiago Bernabeu, scoring a goal in both the Copa del Rey and Champions League finals.

But his second season in Madrid was tougher for him, with injuries holding him back and the Welshman coming in for some fierce criticism from the Spanish media and fans alike. Rumours have suggested the 25-year-old could be a target for some of the bigger Premier League clubs, although he maintains he wants to remain with Los Blancos.

Speaking to reporters after the Corazon Classic Match between Real Madrid legends and Liverpool legends at the weekend, Owen said Bale will keep improving.

“Real Madrid have a great team right now. Maybe they need a little more to be better than Barcelona at the moment, but they have a fantastic squad. “I thought that Bale had a decent start to his career at Real Madrid. He’s quiet and shy by nature, but I think that the more fit and confident he is, he’ll improve even more. He’s a world class player,” he commented.

He also added Rafa Benitez is a good choice as manager. “I spent very little time with Rafa at Liverpool, but I can say that is a very good coach,” he stated.
