Zinedine Zidane continues receiving bad news in January from the medical reports. On Saturday, he had to substitute both Marcelo and Luka Modric due to injuries in the game against Málaga. It was expected that the players will miss one month of competition, but now it’s official and Marcelo will miss the first leg in the Champions League Last 16 Round against Napoli.

The manager has received good and bad news. Obviously, the bad ones came with Marcelo and his absence in the next month of competition. Luckily, Luka Modric doesn’t have anything important and should be fit in 10 days.

“Following tests carried out today on Marcelo at the Sanitas La Moraleja University Hospital, he has been diagnosed with a grade 2 muscle injury in his left hamstring”, Marcelo medical report said. Therefore, the left back will be out of the team around one month, missing the games against Celta, Real Sociedad, Osasuna, Espanyol, Valencia and Villarreal in La Liga and the clash against Napoli in the Champions League.

This is a recurrent injury for Marcelo, who always suffers muscular problems in the month of January. The Brazilian doesn’t have a replacement in the squad because Fabio Coentrao is now showing the level to play with the white t-shirt. Therefore, the left back had to play all the minutes and the muscular problems arrived.

At least, the good news came with Luka Modric. According to the medical report, Luka Modric “has been diagnosed with a strain in his right abductor muscle”. He will be out of the pitch 10 days, so he should be fit to face Napoli in the Champions League. The midfielder will miss the game against Celta in Copa del Rey and Real Sociedad in La Liga.

Now, Zinedine Zidane has a big problem in the defence. Carvajal and Marcelo are out of the competition for the next month with serious injuries, whereas Pepe continues with his problems. Coentrao is not suitable to play with Real Madrid and Danilo has received severe criticism in the last games. So Sergio Ramos, Varane and Nacho will have to play in the defense with Lucas Vázquez as an emergency right back, a new position for him.

Real Madrid have received very bad news because Modric and Marcelo are out for a month. Los Blancos have many important injuries in the team as Gareth Bale, Pepe and Dani Carvajal. Both the Croatian midfielder and the Brazilian left back will be out one month. The Croatian midfielder is a very important player in the team, but Los Blancos have many players who can substitute him.

A major problem could be Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese star will also be examined by Real Madrid medical services because he has a wound in his hand and he also received a blow in the match against Málaga. It seems that this is not an important injury and that he will be ok to play the Copa del Rey game.

Real Madrid have suffered a lot of injuries in the current season. 19 players have already suffered physical problems. It’s the second time that Marcelo and Modric suffer an injury. The Brazilian left back has already stopped by the FIFA Virus in the beginning of the season with a problem in the soleus, while the Croatian midfielder suffered an injury in his left knee that left him a month and a half without playing.

One of the main reasons is the number of matches the Portuguese striker played last season. Cristiano Ronaldo played 48 games with Los Blancos where he scored 51 goals and 16 assists (4300 minutes). This year he already had to rest in several games despite he missed the beginning of the season because of an injury. He finished the year very tired and in the Euro final he had to leave the pitch because he had muscular problems. Maybe that injury is extending to the present day, creating discomfort to the Portuguese star.

Another key may be Gareth Bale’s absence. The Portuguese and the Welshman have a good connection in the field. Cristiano Ronaldo receives many assists from Gareth Bale, and his performance grows when the Welshman is on the field.

Another reason is that when Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t score in two consecutive games he begins to have anxiety. The anxiety doesn’t allow him to take the best decisions. The current season he is playing in different positions. He is playing in several games as a striker and he looks a bit lost, because he has always played in the left wing, where he can show his great speed and his dribbling quality.

Cristiano Ronaldo must recover his best level this year because now Real Madrid will face the most important part of the season. The Portuguese player is very important for Los Blancos and when he is in a good level, the team plays much better.

Nacho is a very important player for Real Madrid. He is not in the usual starting 11, where Sergio Ramos and Varane are the pair of full backs in the important matches, but he is playing many games in the current season. With Zinedine Zidane, Nacho’s importance has increased considerably.

He has already played 18 games in this season with Los Blancos, while in the last entire season he played 27. It looks like that this year he will participate even more than the last one. We can say that his importance also has grown inside the dressing room.

He is 27 years old and this summer he received several offers especially from Italy, but finally he decided to stay because he was going to have a bigger role than the last seasons.

Nacho has a great versatility and he is showing it the current season. In the game against Málaga, he started playing in the right back and when Marcelo had to leave the pitch because of muscular problems, the Spaniard defender changed his position and finished playing in the left. The French manager has changed the formation several times this season and a clear example is the match against Sevilla of La Liga, where Los Blancos faced the Andalusian team with five defenders. Sergio Ramos, Varane and Nacho were the full backs and they played a really good match despite Real Madrid lost the game in the last minutes.

He is an example for all the players of the squad because of his behavior and professionalism. Pepe might leave the team at the end of the season and with Nacho in the squad he will became the third full back of the side (nowadays is the fourth).

This will be his fifth season in Real Madrid’s first team and he is growing as a player with the pass of the years. In this season he scored one of the best goals of all the year against Cultural Leonesa where he showed his quality when he is in the opponent box.

Zinedine Zidane spoke after the victory against Málaga at Santiago Bernabéu. Los Blancos did not play a good match but finally they could achieve the victory with two goals of Sergio Ramos. The French manager talked about the game, the injuries, Lucas Vázquez new position and Real Madrid supporters who whistled in certain moments of the match.

Danilo did not play today despite Carvajal’s injury and he explained the reason why the Brazilian defender did not enter in the line up:”He had muscular problems and that’s why he did not play. He wanted to play but we prefer not to risk”, the French manager explained about Danilo’s situation.

After Málaga’s first goal, many Real Madrid supporters whistled at the team because they were not happy with the performance of certain players:” We need that our supporters give us serenity, because what we have done so far it has been incredible. We need their help and they have to support us, because in a long season, the players and the coach need affection”, Zidane said about Real Madrid supporters.

Marcelo and Modric could not finish the match because of muscular problems: “We’ll see tomorrow. Luka finished the match with problems but it looks it’s not an important injury, while Marcelo’s injury seems more worrisome”, Zidane said.

With Marcelo’s injury, Lucas Vázquez had to change of position and he played almost all the match in the right back: “He did a great job, but I don’t like this solution because Lucas is not a right back. That’s not his position”, the French manger talked about Lucas position.

After two consecutive defeats against Sevilla in the regular season and Celta de Vigo in Copa del Rey, Los Blancos could achieve another victory in La Liga. Real Madrid have been proclaimed what in Spain is known as “winter champion” (the team that finishes in the top of the table after the first round).

Zidane made some changes in the starting 11. With Carvajal’s injury, everybody thought Danilo was going to be in the line-up, with the aim of recovering his confidence after his poor performances in the last games, but finally, the French manager decided to include Nacho in the right back.

In the beginning of the match, Los Blancos tried to control the game having the ball possession and in the 10th minute Cristiano had the chance to open the scoreboard, but the Portuguese star could not finish the play because Kameni did a great save. Málaga had a great chance from Chory Castro but his shot went to the bar.

In the 25th minute, Marcelo had to leave the field because of an injury and Isco replaced him. Zidane had to make some changes in his formation and the French manager decided to play with 4-4-2, with Lucas in the right back and Nacho in the left.

In the 35th minute Sergio Ramos scored the first goal for Los Blancos with a great header from a cross of Toni Kroos. Only 10 minutes later Real Madrid’s captain scored his second personal goal from another cross of the German midfielder just before the players went to the dressing room.

In the second half, Real Madrid started with a high pressure, trying to steal the ball as fast as possible. In the 63rd minute Juankar did a wonderful play where he dribbled Varane and Juanpi scored the first goal for the Andalusian side. After Málaga’s goal, Real Madrid tried to maintain the ball with the goal of letting the minutes pass. Cristiano had many chances to score the third one but Kameni and the bar prevent it. In the last 10 minutes Zidane decided to change Modric and Benzema because both were a bit tired and Kovacic and Morata replaced them.

Los Blancos finally could win in a very tough game after two consecutive defeats. The team managed by Zinedine did not play a good match but the three points were necessary to continue in the top of the table.

We can say that the MVP of the match was Sergio Ramos because, despite he had a difficult week, he played a really good match, scoring the two goals that give the victory to Real Madrid.

There have been a lot of rumours about James Rodríguez’s future in the current winter transfer market. Inter Milan are very interested in signing the Colombian midfielder. The Italian team needs a leader in their squad and their president Massimo Moratti is thinking in James Rodríguez as the great signing of the year.  Inter haven’t won any title since six years ago and they want to be again one of the most powerful teams in Europe. Currently, James is injured and he hasn’t played since the 7th of January. The Colombian midfielder is not having too many minutes this season despite the number of injuries Real Madrid are having this year. He has played 9 games in the regular season, scoring only one goal, in the match against Espanyol. In Champions League he has only played four games while in Copa del Rey he has played 3 games, scoring one goal per match. James is not showing his high quality and Real Madrid could thing what should they do with the Colombian.
