Florentino Perez says Denis Cheryshev’s ban from the Copa del Rey should not have been valid as neither the player nor club was notified.

Cheryshev’s inclusion in Los Blancos’ match against Segunda B side Cadiz has made the headlines in recent days after it emerged he should not have been playing. He had picked up three yellow cards in last season’s competition while on loan at Villarreal and had not served a one-match ban by the time he featured for Real on Wednesday.

His inclusion in the side could see Los Blancos thrown out of the competition.

Speaking to the media on Thurday, club president Perez insisted that because the player or Real had not been notified, the ban is not valid and therefore did not need to be served.

“In relation to Real Madrid’s fielding of the player Denis Cheryshev in the Copa del Rey match against Cádiz yesterday, and after analysing the events in today’s meeting of the Board of Directors, we wish to state that the one-match ban for accumulating three yellow cards in the Copa del Rey tournament last season, when the player was representing Villarreal, should in our view not take effect, because nobody notified the player of the ban, as is clearly stipulated in article 41 section two of the Spanish Football Federation’s Disciplinary Code, which states: … punitive resolutions will not take effect until the parties concerned have been personally notified,” he said.

And he added: “It’s an essential, basic principle of all punitive law that that the punishment does not take effect, and it is as if it did not exist, until the party receiving the punishment is notified.

“As the player Cheryshev states, nobody notified him of the ban, and for that reason it should not take effect. Real Madrid were not aware of its existence, nobody notified the club of its existence, neither the player nor Villarreal nor the RFEF.”

Segunda B side Cadiz have confirmed they have lodged an official complaint over Denis Cheryshev’s appearance for Real Madrid in the two side’s Copa del Rey tie on Wednesday.

The Russian winger played, and scored, in the 3-1 win in Andalucia, but it emerged during the game that he we supposed to serving a one-match ban in the competition for picking up three yellow cards while on loan at Villarreal last season. Wednesday was the first opportunity for him to complete that ban.

Real boss Rafa Benitez said he removed Chryshev at half-time as an act of good faith as soon as he heard the winger was not supposed to be playing, and Real insist they had no notification from the Spanish Football Federation about any ban.

The tournament organisers are yet to make a decision on what will happen, but it is likely Los Blancos will be thrown out of the competition.

A statement on the Cadiz website read: “Cadiz CF have presented in the last few hours before the RFEF, a written complaint of alleged proper alignment of the football player Denis Cheryshev, as agreed unanimously at an extraordinary meeting of the board of directors.

“This morning we have received communication from the RFEF that the letter has been received and they have given a deadline to Real Madrid to present the arguments they deem appropriate.

“The club reiterates its utmost respect for Real Madrid and will not make any further statements until there is an announcement from the Competition Committee, who will dictate the magnitude of what happened.”

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos says Barcelona’s fine form won’t last forever and Los Blancos need to be ready take advantage of any blip.

Los Cules won have earned high praise in recent weeks following the 4-0 demolition of their fierce rivals at the Santiago Bernabeu. They also emphatically beat Roma 6-1 in the Champions League.

Last season’s treble winners sit top of La Liga and have progressed to the next stage in the European competition.

But speaking to the media earlier this week, Ramos reminded journalists that things can change very quickly in football. Not so long ago, the 10-time Champions League winners were unbeaten in 14 games, but a couple of bad results later and serious questions are asked.

Ramos stated: “Football changes in a matter of hours and last season we ended the year really well and Barca were worse than us, but at the end of the season they won the treble.

“Now Barca are in good form, so let them enjoy it, because you never now how long it’ll last. You have to be prepared for both the praise and the criticism because, like I said, football is always changing.”

The 29-year-old was also asked for his thoughts on the Ballon d’Or shortlist, with Ronaldo, Messi and Neymar featuring this year and asked to pick a winner between the three.

“It doesn’t depend on me. I don’t know what criteria they use to judge it, but the three of them all deserve to be there. I have a little bit of healthy envy that I’ve not been able to experience a moment like being a Ballon d’Or finalist, but all three are ready to win it.”

Real Madrid’s sporting director Emilio Butragueno says nobody at the club was informed of Denis Cheryshev’s suspension before he was named in the starting line up of the Copa del Rey tie against Cadiz.

The Russian winger scored in the 3-1 on Wednesday night but during the game it emerged that he should have not been playing. The 24-year-old picked up three yellow cards in last season’s competition, earning himself a compulsory one-game ban.

He had not served that suspension before taking to the field and his inclusion could see Los Blancos thrown out of the competition after Cadiz lodged and official complaint. Real will try their best to appeal any severe sanctions, but Osasuna did the same thing earlier this campaign and were thrown out.

Speaking after the debacle, Butragueno said he wasn’t seeking to blame anyone but revealed no one from the Spanish federation had warned them of the winger’s suspension.

“The club were not notified about the sanction. We did not receive any form of notification from the Federation or from Villarreal and nor was the player informed about the circumstances,” he said.

And he continued: “This is not about looking for someone to take the blame. We are going to wait and see what happens. There is an article, 41 of the Spanish Football Federation’s Disciplinary Code, it states that the possible sanction will not take effect if the interested party is not notified personally and the player was not notified. That is why Cheryshev was playing.

“I spoke to the Federation tonight and we will see what happens over the coming hours. The ruling will be made on Friday and our legal representatives will have something to say. We can say little more, tell the truth about what happened, be cautious and careful. We have talked over the course of the night at the club with everyone involved and there is no record”.

Real Madrid youngster Marcos Llorente says team mate Denis Cheryshev is distraught after it emerged the club will likely be thrown out of the Copa del Rey because of his involvement in the match against Cadiz.

The winger scored in the 3-1 first leg win in Andalucia on Wednesday night but it emerged during the game that Cheryshev should have in fact been serving a ban.

The Russian picked up three yellow cards in the competition last season while on loan at Villarreal and still hadn’t served his one-match ban. While Madrid may hope they get a reprieve, Osasuna were thrown out of the competition earlier this season for the same issue.

Speaking to reporters after the match, Llorente said his team mate was upset at events and was feeling down.

“Cheryshev isn’t doing good. He’s affected by this and is concerned. He hopes the clubs can sort this out. This wasn’t Cheryshev’s fault. He’s ok that way just quiet right now,” he commented.

And he added: “Academy players were proud to play, although the game might not ultimately count but we’ll always defend this shirt.”

He ended by saying the players must keep focusing on the challenges ahead and leave the bigger decisions to those in charge. “We are now only focused on our next game over the weekend,” he stated.

Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema insists he has done nothing wrong after being accused of trying to blackmail France team mate Matieu Valbuena in a sex tape scandal.

The 27-year-old was charged last month by French police after an investigation suggested Benzema was involved in an attempt to extort money from the Lyon midfielder in order to help him get rid of a sex tape he features in. He is suspected of having pressured Valbuena into dealing with the blackmailers.

Since the story broke, Valbuena has already spoken, saying he is ‘more than disappointed’ with his international colleague. French Prime Minister Manuel Valls has also waded in saying Benzema should not be picked fro France again as he is not a good role model.

With with reputation having taken somewhat of a battering in recent weeks, Benzema took time to speak to TV1 in his homeland to give his side of the story. And he insists he is innocent of any wrongdoing.

“I am being accused as though I were a criminal, of terrible things. What happened is simple, I found out that there was a video made of him and I let him know but he was already aware. I told him that I could help him through a friend I had in Lyon. We talked about it, about whether he had let his family know and if they knew, about whether he should let it come out,” he said.

He then went on to add he believes the media is on a witch hunt against him.

“They have spoken of blackmail, I have heard them say that I was seeking money and my friend was as well. That makes me crazy, I never spoke about money.”

Real Madrid boss Rafa Benitez says the club wasn’t aware Denis Cheryshev should have been serving a ban in the Copa del Rey.

The Russian scored in Real’s 3-1 victory over Cadiz in the first leg of the last 31 tie but it emerged during the first half that the winger should not have been playing having picked up three yellow cards in last season’s competition while on loan at Villarreal.

The third yellow card was picked up against Barcelona as the Yellow Submarines were knocked out but the 24-year-old still hadn’t served his one-match ban before featuring in the game on Wednesday evening.

Los Blancos could be kick out of the competition as a result after Cadiz lodged an official complaint.

Speaking to reporters afterwards, Benitez said he was unaware of the situation until te match had started, and he replaced Cheryshev at half time as an act of good faith as soon as he heard about the ban.

“The club knew nothing about Cheryshev’s suspension status. Niether Denis nor anyone reported this to us. We played him on faith. I heard about Cheryshev’s situation during the game as the rest of everyone did. We should be prudent and wait on this. This is all very strange. We must wait to see what Cadiz do first then what the competition judge decides. The club had no idea about this and when we did find out, we decided to replace Cheryshev from the game as a sign of good faith,” he said.

Real Madrid and Arsenal planning a striker switch, Alberto Moreno dreaming of a Los Blancos move, and Inaki Williams becoming a target for Los Merengues; these are some of the latest transfer gossip that had been heard at the Santiago Bernabeu these days.

The Gunners have been keen on Karim Benzema for a while, and Florentino Perez is interested in Alexis Sanchez, so there is a chance the two clubs could be preparing a switch for next summer, according to reports in Spain.

Despite Benzema was one of his favourites, Perez is now open to letting the Frenchman leave, following the legal trouble he has been involved in. The Chile international is seen by many as a good fit to replace Benzema, and both parties would be happy with such a deal.

Meanwhile, Los Blancos keep looking for a left-back, and Alberto Moreno is reportedly keen on becoming the next signing for Rafa Benitez. Spanish press has reported the Spaniard dreams of playing for Los Merengues. However, at the moment he is not the first choice for Perez.

Real could also sign a striker in the winter transfer market; someone who can give Cristiano Ronaldo and Benzema some rest, just like Chicharito Hernandez used to do. There are rumours that Los Blancos could be planning a bid for Inaki Williams, one of the rising stars in La Liga. Athletic Bilbao are not likely to let him go midway through the season, so his price would be quite high.

Denis Cheryshev

Real Madrid players did their duty on the field as they beat third division side Cadiz 1-3 in the Copa del Rey. However, it has emerged that they could be eliminated from the competition as they lined-up Denis Cheryshev, who was suspended in this tournament.

The Russian winger should have reportedly been serving a one-game suspension as he accrued three yellow cards in the last Copa del Rey season with Villarreal. Yet, nobody at the Madrid club was aware of this.

Coincidentally, Rafa Benitez men took an early lead as Cheryshev scored after three minutes. A ball from James found Cheryshev inside the area and the Russia international drove a powerful left-footed strike into the far corner.

Cadiz could have levelled in the next play, as Salvi sent the ball through for Cuero, but the striker was denied by Kiko Casilla.

The hosts started growing in stature with each passing minute, but Real had the best chances to score. Cheryshev found space on the flank and sent a cross in towards the near post, but Josete was able to hit it over for a corner.

Rafa Benitez seemed to have been warned of Cheryshev’s problem during the break and he opted to leave the Russian in the bench and bring Kovacic in.

Isco doubled the visitors lead as he got in behind Aridane, controlled the ball with an excellent first touch and sent it beyond the goalkeeper.

Ten minutes later, the Andalusian scored his second and sealed Los Blancos victory with 15 minutes to go as he got on the end of an exquisite through ball from James, cut inside his marker and forced a shot in at the near post.

Real Madrid boss Rafa Benitez says he wants the younger players in the squad to shine tonight when Los Blancos visit Cadiz in the Copa del Rey.

Benitez is expected to make a raft of changes as his side face the Segunda B outfit in the first leg of the last-32 tie. Real have a number of injuries, particularly at the back, and with the team looking to get back on track in La Liga and catch Barcelona, the boss will likely rest stars such as Ronaldo and Gareth Bale.

It means players who have come through the academy, such as Jese Rodriguez, Kiko Casilla and Laso will be given the chance to shine.

Speaking to the media before the match, Benitez said: “The game is one which can cause manager’s concern. We might rotate Cristiano. It’s a good game for the homegrown academy youngsters to show what they are capable of.”

That said, Benitez warned he team that the hosts have the potential to cause an upset and they need to be switched on from first minute to last.

“It is a different game but I insist on my utmost respect towards Cádiz. Its time for those to play who have played less. We must be concentrated and focused in the game to take advantage of our qualtiies. I’ve seen pictures of the Cádiz and my assistants have enough information. It is a team that plays from the back, use the wings. Will Madrid play beautiful football? First define what is beautiful? We must respect the Cup and insure a win.”
